Funnily enough on the RDR2 discussion, the rumour of a current gen patch has reared its head again, and we will probably actually find out soon enough if it's true as you'd imagine it'll be released a while before GTA VI advertising ramps up.

I liked the game a lot. Its world is incredible and the production levels are phenomenal. One thing I had a big problem with was that I felt it was too on-rails. One of the beautiful things about Red Dead Redemption was that you had a bit of freedom in doing missions and stuff around the world. You could get into a fist fight at a saloon or in the street and knock the other guy out, or you could cheat at poker and be caught and end up killing the accuser in a duel, and in both incidents everyone watches you during it and just walks away. You can't do anything in RDR2 without lawmen coming after you and it's infuriating at times. I mean I'm talking insulting a passer-by, or knocking them over accidentally. In addition, most of the missions are so on-rails that you can't stray even a little from the main path or do anything other than what you've been told to do without getting a mission failure. It just feels very restrictive.

Red Dead Redemption is one of my favourite games of all time though. I'm in the minority in liking it over 2 but I just feel it does so much better. Its story and its depiction of the encroachment of "civilisation" and the death of the wild west felt more realistic than the on-the-nose commentary in 2, and I just loved John. He has many flaws and the game doesn't shy away from showing how naive he is, but nothing is ever shoved in your face.

I sucked it up and went through it again. Past the 2nd gym now. Helps that I figured out how to fast-forward my emulator so I could fly to where I was within an hour or two.

Can you tell I've never emulated a game in my life before? Baby's first ROM. A whole new world of possibilities has opened up before me.

I can't play a normal Pokemon game after playing ROMS. Speeding stuff up is such a godsend.
