Oh man PS5 has been jailbroken to all hell over the last week. People have got PS2 and PS3 games running through the disc drive (PS1 is difficult as the PS5 can't natively play CDs - but I think it'd be doable if you had a USB CD-Drive). The issue is that Sony said that PS2/PS3 couldn't be emulated (oh it's the Cell, oh the PS2 is antiquated tech and hard to do).Turns out...bullshit. A bunch of hackers/modders just did what a billion dollar corporation "couldn't" do.

So ....PS5 hardware can play PS2 and PS3 Games natively lol. Like I low key thought it could, but fuck Sony so much.

Has this been recently confirmed? I thought at release they had graphics which so, so heavily implied native support was coming at a later date but wanted to save the announcement, so if they've just caged it off from us for the whole life cycle, I'll be pissed.

It is confirmed. Turns out bringing classic PS1, PS2 and PS3 games is easier than what we thought. Explains why Sony offered classics on PS Plus tbh. If it can read PS2/3 games using discs, then it can be easier with digital copies. I hate to be in Sony’s greedy higher ups’ shoes right now. If this hack where you can play every PS5 game out there right now goes viral, Sony definitely lost this generation for good.

I think this is great news for us gamers and shows that sony has become super anti consumer for corporate greed. I genuinely dislike how the emphasis on yearly income increase is more important than handing out a good product. I guarantee the ps5 would've sold more if it was backwards compatible. Shoot, that was a huge purchase reason for the ps4.

Goes back to the 8th. I swear the crap roll out and release of the Xbox One (always online, used games ban, Kinect, etc.) allowed Sony to win Gen 8 before it even started. That's an issue because Gen 8 is when people really started to digitize their gaming collections and such. Kinda handcuffed them to Sony and now we see this.

It's amazing really, it's one thing to plan to do this move to an all digital future for your user base when you have the proper functionality and processes in place for it, it's another when you don't.

I wanted to sell a game I had and was 90% sure I didn't use the DLC code that came with it, but the only way to be sure was to check my transaction history on my PS Account. So I go into the PS App on my phone, and it won't let me check it there, no option on the store in the app to do so. OK, fine. Then I guess I better go onto the website and check it there. I log in and click on it and it sends me in a loop and repeatedly tells me the equivalent of "oops, that didn't work. Try again", which repeats and never succeeds. Fine, guess I'll have to wait until I get home and go onto my actual console and do it on the PS5 store. Pain in the ass but OK at least I'll get my answer. I get home and log into the store, go to transaction history, and it gives me a QR code to scan on my phone... which leads me back to the webpage for the PS Store. The one that refuses to actually complete the action. Utter shiteshow.

This is just one of many issues with Sony's digital functionality that I've seen people mention, including age verification which seems to be a nightmare for everyone eventually, forcing you to use passkey activation on mobile because their damn useless system refuses to send verification texts to anybody even when using new numbers. That's only once you finally get the option to use that, as I found out when I was locked out of my account for days until it worked eventually. No customer service chat that helps, just a bot that puts you in circles. It is an utter disaster.

Sony once again proving to be horrendous front runners. I can't wait till they get their act together again for a few years before eventually throwing all the good will away (again).

It's fucking bonkers how (somehow) this was easier on PS3 when the PS3 store was properly functioning and it just presented as a massive list - at least then I would know roughly when I played a game I bought DLC for and what games I played around that same time, so I could just zone out whilst I scrolled along for a while.

Also, really what's the point in buying the next PlayStation? All of their exclusives have been the total opposite of what I care for in gaming, so what's the pull for someone who isn't going to pre-order and play the next God of War? Just feels absolutely useless to me to consider buying a PS6 - especially when it feels like this generation has barely got started in terms of games which people really want.

Zero surprise especially after the Saudi PIF takeover, but it still makes me extremely sad. This is the modern market.
