Here to plant my flag and say the only correct take: FF16 is the only good Final Fantasy game. Never in my life did I think that a Final Fantasy game would have me playing as a fire elemental Godzilla and I’d actively lose my fucking mind at every set piece.

You don't have to convince me 16 is good. I own it and have played the interlude

XVI is class and I'll be a die-hard defender until my dying breath, but it ain't touching that golden era PS1 trilogy.

I liked XVI a lot and love Ben Starr a little too much, but the combat unfortunately was a little too lacklustre in the end and I really wish they made better use of the female characters because they set them up so damn well from the start.

I've been meaning to get the Pixel Remaster collection for a while now, since I still need to play I-VI (I've played a little of VI, but only got so many hours into it). On which one is my favourite, mine is FFVII, it's also probably my second most favourite game of all time behind Super Metroid, loved Remake and Rebirth even more. Not many games get me to tear up from just the joy of playing it or because I care so much about the characters.
Also, after finishing Rebirth last year I went back to the original FFVII to get the platinum, it was so much fun, I've never been able to beat Ruby weapon before, so it felt great to finally do it after so many years. I loved trying out all the recommended tactics to take him out. I think in the end I did the trick where you only have 1 party member alive and then use W-Summon with Knights of the Round amongst some other things I'm forgetting. I love the materia system.
