Sword and Shield’s main scenario was actually really good. And I loved the rivals in Marnie and Bede. But it felt a bit sparse besides the main stuff. I enjoyed it though. Need to get back onto Legends Arceus tbh. I really liked what I played of it. Have you two played it?

The new Pokemon Snap is the kind of game where I’m glad it exists but I don’t want to pay full price for it.

It's on my to-do list. I'm a pretty frugal gamer, so shopping Nintendo exclusives makes me cross because they never go into sale.

Lovely to see the Sword/Shield love in here. I had only played Gens 1-3 up to that point, but me and my (at the time, new) girlfriend decided to buy a copy each as we had 2 Switches and played them side-by-side, so I have a personal attachment to that gen.

I really liked Sword/Shield too, but haven't played any others since.

I did also get the new Pokemon Snap but struggled to get into like I did the original.

Sword/Shield are underrated for sure, sword the only pokemon game I’ve sat and completed the Pokédex for (basic dex, never managed to finish the expansion). I loved everything about it, the gym battles being in stadiums is sort of how I’d always imagined it’d be if Pokémon were real (so that pleased me way more than it should have really) I always enjoyed facing the elite 4 but i think I enjoyed battling the gym trainers when they’re not holding back a little bit more because it added a bit of variety upon revisiting as it was a different set of gym leaders each time.

Played Pokémon violet too, but although it was open world and pretty cool, I was disappointed because I couldn’t customise my character to the same extent as sword. The game didn’t feel like a classic Pokémon game either. I enjoyed it on the whole, but not a patch on pokemon sword!

Not tried Violet, but have been tempted. I'm kinda lazy on my Switch at the moment though and generally just play card-based roguelikes.

Is Legends Arceus really worth it then? I've got it and just can't get into it. I know I need to give it more time but I really miss the regular battle system.

I haven’t had a go at Scarlet/Violet yet either. I got Legends Arceus back in 2022 and haven’t actually even played that that much.

I enjoyed the fact that for the first time in what had felt like ages they were having a go at a very different setting as well as innovating on the basic gameplay loop rather than removing stuff to add alternative versions every generation (Mega Evolutions/Z Moves/Gigantamaxing/whatever the crystallisation thing is in ScarVi). Legends Za doesn’t look AS interesting but it may yet surprise me. Lumiose City having another chance to shine can only be a good thing I suppose, XY isn’t a favourite of mine but it did have a lot to like regardless of its issues.

FWIW, I did really enjoy Violet. Sure, it runs like shit, is graphically basic and has pop-in issues, but if you're like me and don't reaally give two fucks about performance, then there are some really good ideas in there.

Yeah I liked Scarlet/Violet.

Incredible soundtrack as well, tbh.

Have you seen this video? It's perfect, they nail everything and I could watch an entire series of it.

Been tempted by Cult of the Lamb for a while now, but I don't particularly like Roguelikes. Like, I thought Hades was fine but I stopped playing it pretty quickly.

Would you still recommend it, or would it not be capable of changing my mind if I don't like the genre?
