I imagine you're trying to play the game the "proper" way and not using the in-game boosters that come with the remastered PS4 versions of the game.

Yeah pretty much, want to experience it in a genuine way. I've no idea why anyone would want to play this game and activate God-mode, the beauty is truly in learning the mechanics and junctioning magic to make some absolute mad bastard warriors.

It's fun on repeat playthroughs, but I think it'd be valid on a 1st time playthrough to turn on 3x speed for grinding/drawing purposes.

I used x3 speed when I had to sit through cut scenes i'd already seen, not going to lie. But I reckon that's justified.
