It just has such a unique tone that is present for the entire book. Colorful, but bleak underneath. Decayed and falling apart, but new life is springing up to replace what has decayed.Really enjoyed Roadside Picnic when I read it about 2 years ago, it was sort of the only thing I could think about for a few weeks after finishing it lmao. Think it was particularly good at making me really care for the characters in these depressing scenes and set pieces, moreso than a lot of other books.
I finally started reading A Wizard of Earthsea last night as a break from Sci-Fi/Sci-Fi-Fantasy after the Thrawn Trilogy... and I fell asleep before I finished page 1... LOL. In my defence here, I've been working a tonne of overtime lately to prepare my bank account for the Christmas period, and the burnout is very much catching up with me fast.
