MGF Mafia 2.0: The Matrix
#91
RIP Annoying Prick. I will avenge you bro.

As soon as he indicated that he was sure I was town, I was hit with the 'Unable to Speak' ability. I wasn't able to post for the rest of the day phase, and thus I wasn't able to confirm anything he said. But everything he said was true.

Day phase yesterday was a two-horse race between Prick and Aragorn, and I would've definitely switched to Aragorn for my lynch vote and explained why fully. I'm pretty sure Aragorn knew this, and either he or the second Mafia hit me with 'unable to speak' for this reason.

Lynch Aragorn. Next day phase I'll be voting to lynch Agent.

TLDR: Me yesterday:

"I told you all that our weapon was The Truth. That we should find ourselves in Le Vrai is almost appropriate. It takes desperate men to take refuge in -his- domain, but even the Agents have limited influence here. Better The Devil we know, I suppose. I know I act like a know-it-all, but I have to own up my part in yesterday's failure. They got the best of us yet again. Prik's info was wrong - but he wasn't lying. Someone gave him faulty data and he died for the sake of whoever did it. Two good Operatives gone. We have to make this work. Even as a numbers game, dispassionate, I don't like the odds. Please someone, anyone, tell me you found out something last night. Even one fact, one shred of intel or evidence, and we can turn this around. What do we have, People?"

The only reason I voted Prick was due to the claim that you (Jas) had contacted me (Star).  Which never happened.

Code Alteration

Alter the Matrix's code to move items from one player to another. This may result in a feeling of déjà vu amongst players.

@Dirty Duck

Does this ability change the results of the use of Prick's Bug ability?  That would explain the discrepancy.  If not, then I fear the choice may be between whether to believe Jas or me on this one. Or maybe I overlooked another ability? I'll be out of contact for several hours (real life health/sleep/ family stuff).  If all goes to plan, I will check back in some time in the afternoon (EST) and vote if there's more info.

Code Alteration is for moving guns players might have had thanks to Upload. It doesn't affect any other ability's outcome.

And just for full transparency: the deja vu allusion in the end of Day 2 post was purely flavour for the Dep/Null switch and shouldn't be read as Code Alteration having been used, it would have been written using the 'in-universe' green text if it were.

I will say this without giving too much away; player visits can happen with other roles pertaining to things which the visited player won't the notified about. Discreet visits, so to speak.

Okay so here's my read:

The Bug visit 100% happened. Annoying Prick exposed the role and was vindicated in death.
Star says he did not receive a message, which is plausible but clears no one.
Jass says he was hit with the no-speak ability, which is possible, but it still leaves the key question unanswered: why was he visiting Star in the first place?

What stands out most to me CURRENTLY is Aragorn’s response. He treated Star’s denial as making it “very obvious” that Prick was lying. Mechanically, that was never true. Multiple roles can visit without the target being notified.

Right now, the visit itself is confirmed fact. The motive behind it is what needs explaining.

For what it's worth, I think Annoying Prick misspoke when he said 'contacted' rather than 'visited'. I didn't contact StarSchwar, but I did visit him. If I was the White Rabbit, Annoying Prick would've been absolutely right to say 'contacted'. Also, this is the Bug's description:

"Code a bug into another player once per night to track their movements, revealing who they visited that night once you enter the Matrix."

I don't want to role-claim. You may draw your own conclusions from that.

okay fair enough, anyone else want to weigh in here? @Aragorn you might want to wax lyrical quickly before people make the rational choice

No mafia kill overnight? Interesting...makes me suspicious of Agent a bit.
