Maybe it's not just a Battlefront 3 curse, but a curse for all Star Wars video game series to never quite get their much beloved and demanded third instalment.

That doesn't bode well for the 3rd Jedi game...

The original Rising concept is very doable with modern tech. I would not be surprised if Konami comes back to it at some point; although at this point MGR has cultivated a very different kind of fanbase so dialing back on the action cheese in favour of typical MGS midquel drivel in a stealth centric experience might not be as tantalizing as it was in circa 2011.

As for Half Life 3, I don't think Valve will ever make another game again. They're a very different kind of business now.

One that I think about quite often is the original concept for Prey. The bounty hunter build.

There seems to be a running theme with bounty hunter centric games going no where. The infamous Star Wars 1313 comes to mind.

Rockstar alone has so many. Bully 2, Whore of the Orient, my username. Unreal Tournament getting scrapped was disappointing too.

MGSV. My most anticipated game ever. Would have loved to see it turn out better than it did.

MGS4. Was such a disappointment that it didn't really follow 2; tied itself so closely to 3 and resolved everything with 'nanomachines'.

(dis)Honourable mentions to AC3 (what was that ending?) and the Burial At Sea DLC to Bioshock Infinite.

AC3 is a big one for me. In interviews, the Dev Team and Nolan North (who is notorious for just spitting whatever he wants about the game dev cycle of projects he's worked on and spoiling anything he wants to) said there was initially an idea for Desmond to be around in about 10 or so games for the franchise as the central protagonist and for it to culminate in a finale where it's 50/50 gameplay split between modern day stealth with Desmond as a kind of "ultimate" assassin and the classic historical split.

Honestly gutted we didn't get that, I feel that Assassin's Creed's reluctance to even address the modern world now and how the Templars use their research as a method of thought domination in our current society was totally dropped (aside from some minor story beats which might as well be fucking Easter Eggs) is a fucking huge bummer.

I always detested what they did with Lucy. They had so many routes to take with her character and story, and they destroyed it all in one fell swoop and reduced her to the most redundant and simplistic option possible.

AC3 was fucking fire. Peak of the franchise. The modern day has always been a tacked on framing device and nothing more - I don't particularly care to play a knock off Splinter Cell.
