MGF Mafia 2.0: The Matrix
Unless there's some ruthlessly brilliant deception (or a series of hilarious misunderstandings and coincidences) going on, I've got nothing better to go on.  Null's been solid, and King's actions make much more sense now, especially the nights the Sentinels did not come.  Let Jas be vindicated!

Yes, Aragorn and Agent both seemed to be coordinating pressure onto BK in yesterday’s phase none too subtly.

The “LFG we got one” post was also a step too far for me in terms of selling a narrative. Other plausible avenues exist technically but compared to what we have to go on for ‘Gorn..its scraps.

Any doubt I had yesterday has been cleared. Lynch Aragorn

5 votes for Aragorn.

Day 5 has ended.
Lynch Aragorn.

The crew of the Pequod had never been more sure of anything in their life-this man was the final traitor. The operator swiftly pulled the man's plug for the final time, without remorse. The body that once belonged to the turncoat thudded down hard on the concrete as the heavens poured onto it. He got his wish-some small aspect of his being would now remain, forevermore, in the Matrix he yearned for. The surviving crew of the Pequod had no such wish, and one by one they departed the world their oppressors had built for them until the facsimile of a body remained alone, its eyes open wide, facing the sky. The code for the beaming sun and code for the heavy weather interacted in the way they were designed to, producing a rainbow for nobody to see.

As the group got up out of their seats and looked around they were comforted to know, for the first time in a long time, they were in the company of friends. The Sentinels would not be coming for them tonight. That evening they ate their protein-rich mush without fear, and they were thankful for it. After a moment of silence for their fallen comrades the operator looked to the man who, at least for now, was their captain. They were safe tonight, but their work couldn't stop. There was still a war raging on against the very force that had corrupted the hearts of their former allies. The Matrix had hold of billions, and they were now only a crew of five...but they would do everything in their power to free as many as they can from its clutches. The Pequod rode off into the distance, for at least one day more...they were alive.

ALIVE:
@Null (The One)
@black king (Lady in the Red Dress)
@st3ve (Hardline)
@starschwar (The Captain)

DEAD:
@Agent (Unable to Speak)
@Aragorn (Lightning Rifle)
@Annoying Prick (Bug)
Departed (Upload)
@Jassassino (Hack)

The Pequod prevails.

Thank you everyone for playing!
Some tidbits:

black king's roleblock on Agent on Night 2 threw a massive spanner in mafia's plans as they had deduced that Jassassino had Hack and wanted to kill him before he could claim the role. However, bk himself was convinced that mafia had targeted The One rather than been successfully blocked and instead roleblocked Null on Night 3.

Despite having Hack, Jassassino's suspicion of Agent and Aragorn were just that-suspicion. He hadn't investigated either of them at the point of stating he was voting for them. Regardless, that one statement left town convinced Jassassino knew something they didn't.

Agent managed to correctly deduce every active town player's role on Night 3, allowing him to claim a role he knew nobody possessed in his final gambit.

The only player in the game to have had two abilities, Null, never ended up using either of them. Ironically, he was also the player most targeted with roleblock.

Role claiming is normally risky since mafia are more likely to dispatch of confirmed townies, but Annoying Prick's role claim instead got him firmly within the sights of town, netting him the most votes to be lynched of any day phase.

starschwar made the most posts in the thread, largely due to his in-character narrations. Between my posts and his you've all been part of a roleplay forum for the past couple of weeks, whether you like it or not. He also made a bad ending post-credits to use in the event that the Machines won. His character on MXO actually was allied with the Machines, so maybe the post-credits were wishful thinking?

st3ve's ability of Hardline removes him from the game for a day phase, making him absent from voting and being voted against. This ability was supposed to be single use but st3ve somehow managed to deploy it for every day phase. (Only joking st3ve, no hard feelings-life happens! Though your use of the phrase "traffic jam for the past few days" was maybe taken a bit too literally...I for one was imagining you in a different sci-fi spaceship story).

Departed is still missing to this day. Some say he unplugged from the metaphorical Matrix and is out there somewhere...in the real world.

The Captain made good on his word. While the crew - and the overworked Operator - slept, he returned to The Matrix, making use of clandestine communications nodes that would connect him to Commander Lock in the real world, to offer his resignation. Of course... he made a few other calls as well. Choice was always the thing the Machines could never understand. Even Morpheus and his ilk boiled choice down to merely Red or Blue. Multiple Choice was far more versatile. More powerful.

True enough, in The Matrix Online, I used this handle for my main character, a human who aligned with The Machines. And despite some vocal opposition to certain command decisions, I remained loyal until the end. In fact, to my knowledge, I am the only player to have met The Architect more than once in live events.

However - don't treat this character and the one here as one and the same. There's two different Links after all.

https://matrix.fandom.com/wiki/Link
https://matrix.fandom.com/wiki/Link_(operative)

The thing is - in MXO - most Machinists, myself included - we didn't play our characters as evil. We truly believed we were doing good for man and machine alike. And the Cypherites - the people who believed Cypher was right, who pulled off horrific acts of murder and sabotage - they were perhaps his greatest enemies. I knew Duck did his research - terms like "Lightning Rifle" originated in MXO and persist on wikis. My character has an article on one or two, but it is an abbreviated and... biased synopsis. I was waiting for someone to look that up and use that as evidence against me, which would have been pretty funny! But I'm honestly more comforted that I wasn't subjected to research as well.

Anyway. This has been an absolute blast. A trip down memory road to one of my favorite universes, and my favorite game period (Snake Eater is a worthy second place!). I don't know who's running the next one or when or what the theme is (I have suggestions!), but I'm already looking forward to Mafia 3.0.

Thanks everybody!

That was really good fun, thanks everyone. I loved watching it from the grave.

When Agent claimed he had messaged me I was gritting my teeth hoping you would lynch him haha.

In the future I'll be more careful how I word things and make sure to use the exact terminology from the game. Describing "visited" as "contacted" is apparently a deadly slip up!

Good game everyone, one of my favourites in a long time. Shout out to Agent who always plays really, really well. Almost had me flip to BK.

Surviving that initial lynch train and the subsequent day was a thing of beauty.
