I saw the second one in the cinema in a massive group on mushrooms. I expect we'll do something similar. It's a waste of mushrooms but is a laugh init.

I saw Frankenstein (2025) in the cinema last week. I did enjoy it, though I think the intro and second half of it is what I enjoyed mainly. The first "part" I didn't really like very much. The usage of CGI wasn't great and the women characters were laughable, partnered with an ending quote from Lord Byron it felt a little bit divorced from Shelley. I think I much prefer Del Toro's original stuff over his adaptations, he's very hit and miss for me. This one teeters on a hit but doesn't compare to Pan's Labyrinth, The Shape of Water, or Pacific Rim.

Really enjoyed Wake Up Dead Man. Better than Glass Onion, not as good as Knives Out.

I was quite happy for the film to simply revolve around the "impossible" murder in the closet, and I feared it would lose me a bit when the film took a turn with the resurrection and acid bath . After Martha's confession and explanation as to how everything tied together, I was successfully roped back in.

I watched Perfect Days last week. It was an utterly beautiful film, really as good as everyone says to be honest.

I watched The Animatrix (2003) in the cinema on 35mm on Monday. I really liked it when I first saw it just on the TV at home but this time the segments I liked less felt stronger and the segments I liked were even better up on that big screen. It is an incredibly well rounded and diverse collection of animation, no segment's style or narrative are too similar to one another and they all do so much to flesh out that world. Such an incredible piece of franchise cinema.

I finally saw Pillion (2025) after not catching it when it was in cinemas. Thought it was great, both the leads did brilliantly and the film was very well done.

Last night I watched Primer (2004). I suggested it after a very long and annoying preamble to deciding a film and my girlfriend was like "is it even supposed to be good?" since I have a tendency to add something to my watchlist if a single thing about it sounded interesting and then forget whatever I heard about it was. I didn't feel like I could really vouch for whether it's supposed to be good beforehand but I'm glad we watched it-I think it's a bit of a marvel of a low-budget film. The director stars in it and also did several other jobs on it including composer. It's confusing to watch but that's intentional and in the end it's a well-crafted and engaging science-fiction film, which feels like a rarity on such a small budget.
