Hobbies and Interests
#5
Good thread. I was thinking of petitioning the Duck in Questions & Suggestions to bring back the Writers' Forum, so I'll start there--

Haven't been on top of it the past couple of years because of school/shifting interests/professional goals but I've been working on a cyberpunk/apocalyptic novel for a few years now; just rewriting it and starting over constantly.

I've made this whole world that I really enjoy writing about but I cannot find a perspective or angle inside this world that I think would best showcase it, if that makes sense. The premise is that civilization on Earth largely collapsed due to planetwide civil war between a confusing gaggle of massive factions. Humanity largely lives on Mars and the Moon and the old factions are in a ceasefire as they try to get settled on new planets, but nobody has the concrete record of what happened over the past two centuries; of how and why Earth finally collapsed and largely became ruined. There are still patches of civilization on Earth, mainly surviving pieces of previously sprawling mega cities, but most of the planet is ruins and a large sect of the surviving population works as scrappers and scavengers trading with people on Mars. SO currently the story is from the perspective of a scrapper that was sent from Mars and has been stuck on Earth for over a decade with no leads, trying to figure out definitively what happened to the home planet. And yeah. I'm just not sure where it's going at the moment. I want to incorporate these incredibly vivid dreams I've had about it over the past couple of years but am struggling to figure out how to get him out into the world I've created. It just feels too big and like I'll have to stretch it out into multiple stories from multiple angles.

Besides that I'm also working on an After Effects project that is actually tangentially related to the book. It's a satirical commercial for an artificial memory implant catalogue that has way too many side effects/body horror beyond comprehension to be a viable product. Having a lot of fun creating animated text at the moment. I'm imitating a lot of the graphic style from the opening credits for the art film "Enter The Void". Perhaps I'll link it here when it's done.
Enter The Void credits for reference:

And I'm also an amateur armorer for very, very small budget films, music videos, student projects and whatnot. Haven't had a project to be attached to for half a year now but may be in talks to provide some of my prop gun arsenal to a thing my friend from school is making. Right now I'm working on getting this airsoft tracer unit I bought to light up without a BB shooting through it. The tracer unit lights up orange to simulate a muzzle flash, and if you do it with the kinds of airsoft replicas I use it should light up the propane that shoots out orange and look pretty realistic, or at least very eye-catching. Perhaps I'll show you all what I'm talking about if I can get this damn electric tape to flutter just right.
