The Official (Unofficial) Whamageddon Competition Thread

[Jassassino]

"Boss, you've got some new intel on your iDroid"

"The target is Wham! they're a pop duo based out of the UK, with an ever-expanding fan-base. They were formed in Bushey, Hertfordshire, in 1981, I assume you've heard 'Careless Whisper'? It's a song from their second album, Make It Big, and their second single from the album too. It was written by one part of the duo, George Michael. It topped the charts in the UK, US and even China - sparking rumours amongst even high ranking intelligence officials that Wham! are due to unite East and West with a global tour, including a leg of China."

"Well, it's not all unification, Boss, perhaps even more scandalous - Careless Whisper is being considered by many critics as a start of George Michael's solo career. That, we'll just have to see about."

"Now, Code Talker just let loose that the Philosophers managed to mutate the Vocal Cord Parasite in a way where simply hearing associated sounds from particular songs, and repeating those lyrics internally, will cause those infected with the mutated parasite total simultaneous brain-stem and heart failure. Boss, whatever you do, you have to prevent your unit from hearing their newest song, 'Last Christmas'. Doing so could be disastrous for Motherbase."

"You need to last from 1st December until at least 25th December - by this time, we should have an antidote prepared for you at Motherbase in the Clinic."

"Good luck, boss."

Spoiler:

I said I'd make a competition thread, so here we are! @Dirty Duck if you feel like moving this over to the actual news and announcements sub-forum, be my guest!

For anyone who wants to play, the rules are simple: Commencing 1st December, you are to make it as a long as possible throughout the Christmas season without hearing Last Christmas by Wham! up until 25th December.

Anybody who manages to make it through to 25th December will win: Supreme bragging rights

The Winner(s), who either make it to 25th December or last the longest (because, good luck getting to the 25th December without hearing that song lmao) will get a unique one of a kind signature commemorating your Scrooge-like determination.

Good luck! And don't spoil Christmas for anyone, if your 89 year old grandma wants to listen to it, don't flip the table!

Omg I nearly made this thread yesterday as they started playing Christmas songs at work (like??) and the FIRST ONE was Last Christmas. I was fuming. Am I still in the game? I thought I was a goner!

It starts on 1st December, so let's pray for you that your bad luck has been totally exhausted already!

[NateDog]

Sorry Jass but I lost this 2 weeks ago when passing a store on Grafton Street. I almost posted here thinking of you!

[Wayno]

I got hit with this like 4 days ago in work. If I'm allowed to participate still I can't see me making it past December 2nd. I have no control over the work radio and the main radio station is heart 80s (unfortunately) or there's a possibility it will go to a dedicated Christmas station because they love that shit.

When I last worked in retail we had on a playlist of unofficial (and what felt like surreal) "music" that seems to be used in quite a few supermarkets here. Can't figure out if Christmas radio or that is worse. Don't think I could even decide with a gun to my head because it was utterly horrific to listen to. When the Christmas themed stuff came on at the start of November I felt even more like dropping a pallet on someone than I usually would.

[Jassassino]

Both of you are still able to participate @NateDog @Wayno ! Starts officially on 1st December so I'll add your names, along with mine and Duck's to a leaderboard in the top post.

Can I still listen to the Poppy cover?

Can I still listen to the Poppy cover?

It's not called Poppy's Cover of Whamageddon!

Can I still listen to the Poppy cover?

The opening to this thread clearly implies the year is 1984, so I don't know what this is, but it certainly won't work with the vocal cord parasite! (Yes you can)
