What games do you refuse to play despite overwhelming critical acclaim?
#1
We all have them. Critical darlings that everybody loves but for some reason, don’t appeal to you at all. I’m not even talking about games you’ve actually played and ended up ditching because you didn’t enjoy.

I’m talking about games that you know exist, know are well received, but you’ve taken a brief look at the outline/trailer and thought “Not for me.”

I’ll start.

Fable.

I just don’t even really know why. I guess it looks like it might be whimsically endearing or whatever. But it’s just never appealed to me, and the creator is a bit of knob.

By the way, I fully expect people to use this thread to scream at other people who haven’t played their fav games and refuse to. That’s basically what it’s for. I’m waiting for one of you to name a game and franchise I like so I can rip you limb from limb.

Faisal; you needn’t bother. I’m not interested in your incorrect opinions about Final Fantasy.

Bioshock Infinite. I remember going into threads about football games or JRPGs on the old place at the time that was out and certain people would come in and say stuff like "get off this and play Infinite" etc. I liked Bioshock but all that guffawing over Infinite completely put me off. The Last Of Us as well. I played it when it came out and I enjoyed it but I don't think I'll ever return to it. Did I enjoy it? Yes. Is it the greatest achievement the game industry has ever seen? No, and I got very bored very quickly of everyone telling me it was. I also don't want to play The Last Of Us Remaster Remastered Redux Reinvented Edition: Remade Version for that matter.

Agreed on both counts actually. Not that I haven’t played them, I’ve played both. But IMO neither match the fanfare.

I always maintained Bioshock 1 and 2 were the better games than Infinite. I don’t know whether that was a popular opinion at the time but I know it’s the in vogue take these days. As for TLOU, I played it on release and was very underwhelmed. Weirdly, I enjoyed the sequel a lot more.

TLoU was goated until Druckmann started talking Zionist drivel. Infinite’s reception is very lukewarm these days

There isn't a game I refuse to play but there are a few I consider disappointments, despite people jerking off all over them. TLOU2 and Cyberpunk being 2 of them. I hate how CDPR is now all forgiven for their BS, despite CB still missing features promised in trailers and interviews.

RDR2. Or I guess more specifically, refuse to continue playing.

I played the first couple of hours, which was just insanely boring and felt like an absolute chore. Adored the first game and thought it was brilliant, but RDR2 just feels like a bloated mess with so many insignificant details that people point to just to make some weird point about how it's the best game of all time.

Fable.

Actually always wanted to play Fable, but in the grand landscape of fantasy RPGs out there, it's absolute bottom of the pile amongst them.

This thread has already triggered me several times over. Only 5 of my all-time favourite games mentioned so far, nice one Henry.

To answer the question, I have no interest in playing any Soulsborne or Soulslike game ever again. Tried Demon Souls (2020), tried Bloodborne, tried Lies of P. Hated them all. I find no joy in games being excruiatingly difficult and when I wasn't dying, I found the games to be, dare I say, boring.

This isn't the bad opinion thread loser

On the topic at hand, another game I have literally no interest in playing at all is HL3. Nothing about the idea or aesthetic, or any gameplay at all, really appeals to me. Think it looks pretty boring, and it looks like it plays like ass - which is interesting, because I'd love to play Dark Messiah of Might and Magic and I sunk hours and hours into L4D2 - both Source Engine games. Goes to show that the engine doesn't mean shi

I’m confused. You have no interest in playing Half Life 3?
