Anyone still play MGS on the old handhelds?
#1
Been recently looking into a PSP with Metal Gear Acid just to have something to play while lying down on the couch or in bed. It does look like fun but Im not sure how it will feel playing physically, if the controllers are to small or if it feels clunky and so on. Is anyone still playing some of the older games on a PSP or Vita or has done it? What is your review on it?

I played AC!D over the last couple of years and thought it was a great little game. I play on my PSP Go which is the only kind of PSP I have now. It's a good deal smaller than a normal PSP which means I can fit it in a pocket or a bag and take it out with me even easier, but no UMD slot means I have to put games on it using my computer.

I do have a Vita but for me personally I'd rather play on the Go for PSP games, especially one like AC!D where it's turn based so a bigger screen and two analogue sticks doesn't really affect the gameplay too much. I do intend to relay Portable Ops at some point and a second analogue would probably enhance that if it works on the Vita, @Jassassino does it work? I know you gave MPO a go on your Vita at some point.

I believe any PSP game works, but again like the Go it has to be a digital download as the Vita takes cartridges instead of UMDs.

I looked some PSP's up and its not that expensive. I'm thinking of getting the PSP-1000 model since its more heavier, has robust quality build but screen is a bit inferior to the other models. Do u know which one u have?

It does, quite nicely too tbh. I don't have a clue how you all managed to sneak successfully at all in that game without proper camera manipulation. This is probably the equivalent of 12 year olds today with iPhones that can play Death Stranding looking at classic Nokias.

This is my one. Tiny little thing, very compact. The 1000 is bulkier but honestly the 2000 or 3000 would probably be fine for you as well. They're light so they're easy to hold and the size is pretty reasonable still.

About 5 years now I reckon? I jailbroke it (which is really easy) which was kind of a must because it's digital only and the PSN Store doesn't work for it anymore I don't think. Plus the PSN Store is quite expensive Tongue

In the last couple of years I have played Metal Gear, MG2: Solid Snake, MGS, MGS2 and MGS3 all on either my PSP or Vita. Also started Ac!d on PSP while away with my partner when she was getting surgery but it was a bit hard to get fully into it there and I got a bit irritated with one section, need to fully get back into it and nail down the systems as I don't think I fully got it.

I love my portable systems. Was planning on taking out my PSP again for Ac!d in the last week but ended up buying and installing Silent Hill instead and am getting through it slowly so I'll do that first. The Vita HD MGS collection is great, but playing MGS2 in particular on it is not exactly something I'd recommend. The RAY section on a harder difficulty is really, really awkward. I remember years ago my friends looking at me with bemusement because I cross my hands over each other when I play, so it isn't too difficult for me I think but would be problematic for most. I've been threatening to buy a PSP 3000 for years and need to soon.
