Sometime near the end of the 21st century. Humanity has been enslaved by the machines they once built. Trapped in a simulated reality known as the Matrix to keep them complacent, human beings are used as batteries to fuel the masses of machines that now rule the world. Most humans have no idea of their situation, completely deceived by the simulation. However, there are those who have broken free of this prison and rebel against their oppressors for the fate of all humanity, entering the Matrix willingly and using it to fight against the machines and liberate others.
Among them: the crew of the Mark III Zion Hovercraft 'Pequod.'
But it is far from an easy battle. The ship has been victim to nightly machine attacks-somehow, they're being tracked. There can only be one explanation: unhappy with the hardships they now face in the real world, some of the crew must have struck a deal with the machines to be returned to the blissful ignorance that was their life in the simulation. The Captain of the Pequod decides that, to avoid an all-out gunfight that risks destroying the hovercraft, everyone besides the ship's operator will enter the Matrix. While in the simulation they will come to a conclusion on who they believe is a traitor, at which point the operator will forcibly unplug them from the Matrix...killing them instantly. Time is of the essence. The machine attacks will only continue until all the traitors are dealt with. Their only chance at survival is working together to decypher who the traitors are. Knowing this, the operator jacks them into the Matrix.

I'm going to warn you all right now. I am a Matrix superfan. I am a Matrix ONLINE superfan, keeper of the lore of the ultra-obscure MMO. I, and by extension, my character, will be insufferable about the most unknowable aspects of canon.

Indeed, I've even read the comics. Can't remember most of them besides Goliath. But. I have every reason to believe this endeavor will go much better than last time around...

Regarding the so-called Mafia, an expert's opinion is warranted.

Before things commence.  It is only right that we pay our respects to the fallen.  Those that gave their lives fighting for freedom from the Machines.

They wanted all people to know The Truth.

The slumbering mankind may not know what they did, erased from the false history that persists as a virtual 1999.

They were heroes of the Real.
