Yeah by this point I couldn't be bothered to type anymore but I didn't just want to do another "What's your favourite of..."

I always thought it was incredibly based that after MGS2 when everyone complained about Raiden and wanted to be Snake he gave us an aging and run down Snake and a hyper-cool and badass cyborg Raiden.

“You guys have always wanted to play as Cyborg Ninja right? And now it’s Raiden, who’s been a playable character before! But you guys didn’t like playing as him right so dw about it I guess, he’ll just be an NPC doing way cooler shit than you can.”

I suppose maybe Kojima’s original intention for MGSR was something not quite as badass as MGRR but I suppose we’ll never know. As it stands MGR provides some quite on the nose modern political commentary that is mainly an excuse for epic battles and moments. I thought it was a fun evolution of PMCs if not a little bit dismissive of Snake’s sacrifice. But I suppose it would be silly to think Snake’s sacrifice would end war even if it ended The System.

Yeah I think one interesting thing about Kojima's way of creating a game and crafting an experience for the player is that his games have built in limitations to let you formulate and strategise 'smarter' ways around a problem. I think what Metal Gear Solid: Rising could've been would've shown a set of situations with the opportunity to devise routes and and infiltration to bases by cutting your way through walls, etc. and finding routes where it would've never been expected. In that way, it would've felt far less scripted than games we have with that kind of infiltration (like Ghost of Tsushima, as much as I love it) where the walls and windows you can selectively go through are obviously highlighted. Showing us Raiden's 'cool' factor in MGS4 definitely felt like a way of him and his team expressing that, although he looks really cool and is able to do so much, that will never be the capability of the player in these games.

MGR:R in turn feels like Platinum Games saying "Yeah, but lets tap into that power fantasy, just for a brief second" lmao. I think the political commentary of MGR:R is, as you said, on the nose a little - but it provides purpose and decent backstory and motivation behind the game which motivates us. I think one thing which it does do well is how, despite it being a 'revenge' tale for Raiden, it's not necessarily a vendetta against Desperado Enforcement which he finds himself on his crusade against, but instead the ideas they represent and the means they choose to achieve their goals (child soldiers, PMCs, genetic engineering, etc.).

Bigge thinke moment: MGR 2 should be called Metal Gear Rising: Revolution (brain explode)
