Beach House - Teen Dream

just occurred to me the other day that this album exists and is perfect. Zebra -> Silver Soul -> Norway has to be one of the strongest 1-2-3 sequences on an album, just an utterly ridiculous side A. for me this album is really strongly tied to the hottest summer i had ever experienced, driving around my friend's jeep listening to chillwave and progressive house. "early twenties dream" really.

Efterklang - Tripper

this one might be a little less universal but i think it fits for a few reasons. it is probably the most pure expression of a genre that i don't think exists anymore and maybe never existed (glitch chamber post-rock?), but it captures sound(s) that are representative of early-2000s indie. the really harsh digital clipping of the glitchy stuff was really cool at that time, though nowadays i don't know if you could get away with it. the breathy boy-girl harmonization, the orchestral instruments, song forms that were more dreamlike and wandering rather than neatly packaged. i remember i really loved this album then promptly stopped paying attention to the band after hearing they did not continue this style in their subsequent albums. though recently i came across one of their albums at a used record store and it's actually quite good, even though it's not anything like this.
