Assassin's Creed
#31

Honestly was hard to watch the showcase yesterday. Looks like combat will be much more like the modern RPG system, crouching will inevitably break a lot of stealth missions and they've succumbed to the cries and moans of Reddit children who didn't like the idea of minimal difficulty in their "stealth" action game by nerfing the difficulty of evesdrop missions.

A lot of additions, nothing I would have wanted from a remake of Black Flag really. Especially gutting to see the new colour grading so horribly tear the identity of this game away:

Leaks also indicate that this doesn't include DLC and there's at least one other AC remake about to drop.

For those interested in the changes overview:

I was interested in this as I stopped with AC after 3 but have heard so many great things about Black Flag over the years. But when I read this'll have no DLC my interest dropped and having yesterday watched that side-by-side comparison clip on the boat where the OG has a dark and brooding thunderstorm and the remaster has pure clear skies I knew I was out.

Kinda surprised by just how little there seems to be to tempt me to repay the price of admission. Jass and I said the new content sounds like stuff that would be retailer or console exclusive pre-order bonuses back in the PS3/360 days, and you'd just live without the content you didn't get...I certainly wouldn't pay £60 for quests like that lmao

And I did wonder about the glaring lack of mention of Freedom Cry. What is with remakes omitting content that was added after release? Persona 3: Reload and now this...I guess if schmucks buy it and love it anyway and then will happily rebuy the content as DLC then it hurts the studio none.

Ubisoft are so, so fucked. The mandate of yearly releases have absolutely killed modern games. How can I miss you if you don't go away?

Not to mention their inability to commit. How can I stay invested in Assassin's Creed when they once announced they had three different games in development that were all different types of AC game-one with the old formula, one with the RPG formula, one that's 'totally new'. Just decide what your series should be! This isn't like Nintendo IPs that get 2D and 3D entries that are distinct, you're just ascribing 3D gameplay elements at random to periods of history. I'm not gonna get excited for a Witch-hunter game when there's no telling what type of AC game it'll wind up.

@Dirty Duck (I messed up using the quote button..)

It's also interesting how often multiplayer is not even mentioned in these sorts of projects. The industry has massively shifted away from multiplayer modes on single player games and people seem to scoff at them now but AC always had a very engaging multiplayer mode that I miss to this day. The fact they're bothering to remake an entry from 2013 that had multiplayer but not include it is just annoying.

Really it's surprising KONAMI made Fox Hunt at all.

This is why I never truly loved The Undertaker when I watched wrestling when I was younger. Changing gimmick is not going away. You're still here!

Brotherhood was the best pvp multiplayer experience I ever had. Revelations too. I played another multi when the game was on gamepass at one point and enjoyed thst as well but I had dipped out of the series at that point.

I'm surprised you feel this way. I actually like this approach. Why not try different things in an IP everyone loves? After all, Assassin's Creed has always been a splintered fanbase. Some people hated the modern day, some loved the intrigue. Some people loved the place and sense of time, others found it a distraction from the real plot.

Some people loved Black Flag and the ship quests, while others longed for a simplified core gameplay experience.

I always want them to be making something great, and from the sounds of things the supposed witch trials game is suppose to be turning out extremely well. They may have never bothered if they were locked down to just one way of doing things, so I'm all for it.

I'll play the BF remake, probably. Not for a while though. In principle I'm against 'remakes' that are too modern, but I also just realised Black Flag came out almost 13 years ago and now I want to kill myself

Because you should be furthering your IP and pushing boundaries instead of trying to tick every box all the time. It's like focus group gone wrong gone sexual, rather than deciding to stick to their guns and do what they, as the artists behind the game, feel is right for the franchise they're trying to grasp on to every type of fan. It creates an awkward venn diagram where I'm hoping for "is a time period I'm interested in" to overlap with "is one of the however many gameplay styles they're currently churning out that I enjoy"
