OJ gave me some advice on making straighter lines and you gave constructive criticism about the sigs. I forgot just how long I spent working on the graphics for DE. And given all that time I still didn’t fix what you pointed out LOL
We chatted a lot for those years but I think it was a lot of gaming sessions and wasn’t necessarily about the forum happenings a lot of the time.
Smash 4 was 2014 so we’d been chatting for years by the time of THI. I feel like new orgs maybe just stopped making a splash in that period? A lot of orgs were just like ones that came before but with different coats of paint is how it felt around that time. But maybe that’s just me. Maybe Ground Zeroes was actually the best org ever.
I think most of Granin’s public stuff was scrubbed by Henry as that’s what his girlfriend was finding. Private forum stuff and org stuff was likely left as you had to be a member to see it which she probably didn’t know.
Tbf I don't think the orgs were the problem, the site just wasn't getting enough new users regularly enough and a lot of older ones were stepping away at the same time. Seems like some of those brand new orgs like GZ just grabbed as many newbies as they could instead of having a good selection to choose from.
Didn't know Granin's girlfriend was actively looking for his posts? Yikes, I thought he just feared she would. Although seeing him pop up even in MG threads isn't pretty sometimes lol.

Shyne was supposed to be defecting from TSF and making graphics for us. He ended up doing neither as TSF activity picked up a bit so I stepped up to the plate and made the DE graphics.
Damn, you just brought back some more MGSF memories. I remember struggling with the decision before going full "It's no good, I can't do it!"
You did great, having done a few rounds of org graphics I can agree on how tricky and time consuming it is, especially when you want to be done but can't get that last bit fully finished and having to draw a deadline.
I know it's personal and obviously not based on a good situation, but seeing that you were able to crash at Henry's for a time made me smile. Amazing to see that come from a webn forum.

I figured I'd post something here, as much for myself to piece together my history of being on MGSF as far as I remember it. I joined MGSF in 07 as the hype for MGS4 was ramping up. First post I was basically messaging in txt speak and Tam (who was one of the mods), gave me a nudge to not speak in txt speak. This said, pretty sure in that first post I called Big Boss returning in MGS4! I think my initial username might've been Liquidous Snake (Liquid Fox? I know that I just went by Mikey for a bit too, but I'm not 16 anymore so that nickname has been lost to time!)
I applied for a few orgs, and if I recall correctly I was the first person to join FH (the version that stuck around) with Gene - still remember us coming up with the initial graphics via paint on MSN messenger! FH was quite cool - I think there was some hesitancy from the more established members (again, if I recall correctly) because we were newer and weren't led by any long term members - but we made it work. I still remember doing the FH podcast where me, Gene, Blueblob and a few others were playing Crash Bandicoot together; a gaming session which ended when BlueBlob suggested the great hall; queue the rest of us shouting at him on voice chat as we literally couldn't play it because we didn't have the gems!
I left FH to try join DC, which I think was when Gary was still about but after Tam had flounced off the site? It was a little bit after DC at it's zenith, but it was still a great group of people as I remember it. I ended up spending less time on MGSF because I just sort of went off MGS in all honesty - the whole series centring around the legacy of the Boss made it less interesting (which might be another topic for another thread down the road). I also think the influx of newbies and newer fans sorta turned me off - not a slight on them, but I think I fell into the sorta - 'I'm older than these guys, why am I sharing a space with them when we can't really have an in depth conversation? Again, a failure on my behalf. I've a ton of fond memories of that site and that time on the internet though; I think I still have a bunch of Queens Of The Stone Age CDs after Wayno (?) recommended them to me. Didn't really get them but I still have the discs.
Also....um....apologies for the SEES hate way back when. Persona is fucking awesome, I now realise the error of my ways.

Yeah that sounds like me.
Ditto on the site and the internet in general. What we had in terms of the internet in the early earlyish 00s to early 10s is unfathomable to the hellscape it is now. This place is not only a bastion of nostalgia for MGSF, but a place that isn't bots arguing with bots for the algorithm. Where authenticity actually exists.

That was me - I genuinely forgot that was my username for a BIG chunk of time! Makes sense because I didn't read 1984 until late 08, and I think I only changed it in the early 2010s?

My older brother was and still is a huge MGS nerd, so he told me about MGSF and I joined up in 2007 when I was 22 years old. I was a prick for a while and then an endearing prick and then less of a prick. Then I left the forum when I got married, came back a few years later after I got divorced because getting married in my early 20's was a mistake. And by that point, I was pretty much there to stay.
I hopped around a bunch of different orgs until I eventually made my own with Dirty Duck. For some reason, we changed it and then I think changed it back. Throughout that time, I became pals with a bunch of you. At some point, I became an admin for a bit, right around the time MGSV was coming out and we got an invite to the bootcamp event. I remember, CBJ and I would banter constantly in moderation chat and I'd get a kick out of everyone telling me how wrong all of my MGS opinions were. It was a lot of fun, and I remember abusing my power by editing everyone's posts to basically pull a Bruce Almighty.
Then I was doing those crudely drawn comics for a while and people seemed to genuinely enjoy them, which was cool. I toyed around with actually making a crudely drawn game that just played like a straight faced stealth game but with really bad sprites and animations as part of the joke. Dunno if I'll ever do anything with that but we'll see.
After MGSF died, I went on to make my own youtube review channel that initially had my sorta quick-jabby snark vibe but steadily got more nuanced and analytical (a fancy term for long winded). I still run that channel and do reviews of games, mostly MGS related stuff.
For half a year, I was teaching basic screenwriting in an afterschool program for high schoolers who were on the spectrum but had a passion for writing. Loved those kids and loved teaching but education is grossly underfunded and so are the arts, so about six months in, the program was cut along with a few others. These days, I'm a delivery driver by trade, mostly for all of the gig apps and I'm shockingly making more than I ever did with my other jobs.
And now, here I am, forty years old, and all I can say is...

And the gaming videos as well, I always remember Gene being called a pedo on Red Dead Online for committing the sin of having a shit microphone

They had a point though, hard to buy a good microphone when you've spent all your cash on a van and bags of sweets
