What are you watching?

Digger: took me a while to get around to it, I was always interested in seeing it. but all the buzz it was getting made me want to check it out even more. I really enjoyed it, don't quite get the number of negative reviews. Even if one didn't like it, it still looks great and has some excellent performances

Street Fighter: Girlfriend wanted to see this, I don't know much about the games but I found the movie to be dumb fun. I didn't realise until seeing it that it was filmed in my home city of Sydney. It was neato to see familiar locations throughout the movie

Clayface: Huge Batman fan, and liking the new DCU enough to keep checking out the new projects. It was just fine, I thought. I didn't find it to be great or compelling, and it didn't lean into body horror as much as I'd like. Still a decent watch, and was fun to see Gotham in the DCU

I want to see Digger at some point but I'm probably going to see Street Fighter today. Judging by this I'm to assume you've not seen the masterpiece that is Street Fighter from 1994? The Street Fighter movie from 1994 is a cult favourite and is consistently ranked as a lot of people's "so bad it's good" films but I think there's some brilliant intentional moments of well written comedy. But it's definitely bad. Raul Julia gives a fantastic scenery-chewing performance shortly before he passed away as Bison and is worth watching for that alone.

Nah never seen the 94 one, but did watch the Nostalgia Critic review yonks ago (not quite the same as seeing the actual movie, I know). I've been meaning to check out that and the 90s Mortal Kombat movie as well. I keep hearing both of those have a decent cult following

MK95 is one of my favourite childhood films. There's a definite charm and probably the wrong words here but authenticity / sincerity that I didn't get in the 2021 film. The Shang Tsung actor is great and becomes the character model in game because of it. But with it being a PG-13 Mortal Kombat it feels a bit sanded down and the film is competent enough that it becomes a bit dull because of it. Whereas SF94 was a cocaine fuelled fever dream and it shows it on-screen. Whenever you do get round to watching them, Street Fighter is definitely the first you should watch.

So iconic he even appeared in a similar vein in an episode Sabrina The Teenage Witch.

Saw Wildwood today. Thought it was superb as well as being beautiful. Perhaps tried to pack a little too much in but still really good.

I saw You Can See Everything today, the Nathan Fielder documentary. Anyone seen it? Americans are going mad over it, largely undeservedly, but it's still something unique and worth seeing.

What negatives do you have about it? I'm a big Nathan Fielder fan and am doing my best to not read anything about it until arrives in UK next month. Waiting extra for Prime Time and this has been a major bummer.

Watched Street Fighter yesterday. I really enjoyed it and hope for a sequel even though there's no way this is turning a profit. It was never going to be SF94 and it didn't really try to be but it was silly, over the top, some of the flights were great and it felt like it was fun for the cast to be a part of. They went a different route with Bison I enjoyed because you can't replicate Raul Julia, I loved it when he said "the line."The animated sections were gorgeous.

Minor quibbles, Andrew Schultz was fine but I'd rather he not be in anything I see ever. Some of the humour was very fetish oriented which got a bit tiresome for me. Guile wasn't in it enough. Cody Rhodes as Guile was my favourite thing about the movie and he's not in it anywhere close to enough vs Schultz.

Can't really say without spoiling it. Not hard negatives per se, just differences in taste and interest, and I question the point of the whole thing. If you finish a documentary knowing less about the subject than when you started, I mean that's on paper not a great result.

Started crystal Lake. Getting mixed feelings after one episode and a half. The idea to be an origin story is appealing, yet I feel the execution is rushed.

I watched Godzilla vs. Gigan (1972) with my girlfriend yesterday morning right after getting up (which feels like a crazy good way to spend a morning and I should do it more). Over the past few years we've watched most of the Showa era Godzilla films, as well as a good amount of the later ones too. We've not necessarily watched them all in order, so we'd already encountered Gigan in this film's follow-up, Godzilla vs. Megalon (1973), which was enjoyable but vs. Gigan is definitely the much better film. I was especially impressed by the slightly strange, wiggy scene in which the two enemy space monsters first appear:

One odd part about it was that Godzilla is shown to straight up speak with translated subtitles, which I didn't love I won't lie. But it was only one small scene so I can let it go, especially with how great the Gigan destruction scenes looked:

Unfortunately I did notice that a fair amount of stock footage from previous fights with the returning monsters was used. It's kind of obvious if you've seen the films the footage is from, but it's not really the end of the world...especially after All Monsters Attack (1969) was essentially just a Godzilla clip show (with a touching human story, but that's unrelated to stock footage).
