Weapon changes?

What do people know about any changes to the game's weapons? I know the XM16E1 has been changed into an actual XM16E1, but that's about it. Can we actually aim the M63 this time? Is there maybe any mod system akin to MGS4 with accessories of the time, like the Colt 4x scope, MACV-SOG vertical foregrip, etc.?
Glad the game has real guns in it instead of those frankenguns that MGS5 and its expansions/spinoffs/whatever had.

I haven't read anything as of yet but I'd be a little surprised if they added in weapon mods as it might break the game a bit but I could be wrong. Was the reason for all the fake names in MGSV just down to licensing?

Weirdly it seems Fox Hunt is using all MGSV’s own brand guns? If so I’m not sure if that’s just to differentiate it or because it’s based loosely on MGO3 systems or something. Who knows? Seems an odd thing to do regardless.

Probably a beta build. The Mk 22 and AK are in, according to screenshots.

Yeah no the main game still has real guns. It’s the recently announced multiplayer mode that people have been saying the guns all seem to be from MGSV.

Fake designs, too. None of the guns in MGS5 are real. And yeah, possibly. Assuming Kojima didn't go balls to the wall and do it without permission, the Glock 18 and HK weapons in MGS4 probably cost a pretty penny.

It never even occurred to me that guns are IPs that you’d need to pay to use the likeness of. Do they eventually become public domain designs or is that not a thing?

In most cases, just changing the name and/or altering the design in some fashion, whether obvious or not, gets around it. The patents for the AR-15 are public domain; only the name "AR-15", patented by Colt, can't be used. The M1911, AK-47/74, and most vintage WWII and older arms are public now. The technical design specs for the M16 family, M4/M4A1, M249 series, and some others are owned by the US government, and so are public domain. Colt tried to sue over the name "M4" (the "M4 Custom" name could have been enough to skirt it, since said lawsuit was still in progress at the time of MGS4's release), but the suit was struck down. And looking up the details of Glock's trademarks, it seems to be a complicated yes and no. Older versions, like the Gen 1 and Gen 2, would theoretically be public domain, but that could be argued because Glock is continually making improvements to the basic design. IDK, trademarking/patenting/copyrighting are far too complicated for me, which is why I never went into that job line lol, so this is all to the best of my knowledge.

I read an interesting theory about this way back. While it's *probably* just licensing, there is something else going on with MGSV's weapons. Almost all of them are composites of two or more real world weapons, or in some cases, just a "legally distinct" alteration of one. Indeed, each fills a very obvious role. Diamond Dogs' default rifles are stand-ins for M16s and other NATO type weapons. The SVG series are AKs and other combloc weapons (the obscure VZ-58 has some DNA in there).
How appropriate, then, is it that Venom's arsenal, like himself, are all patchwork doppelgangers? They do the same job, they look the part at a distance. Good enough, except for the most discerning eyes. Phantoms.
But it's probably just Konami skimping on licensing fee.
