1. Its physics left quite a bit to be desired. I'm replaying MGS V at the moment and you'll find the game can sometimes really struggle with certain slopes/angles and interactions with Snake's various movement modes (standing, sprinting, walking, crouching, prone, etc). Might seem minor - but it can be painful when a perfect run is ruined because Snake froze at a perfectly normal 30 degrees angle.
2. Pop in is pretty atrocious. The game circumvents this with the binoculars to some extent, but its clear the game had to take a lot of shortcuts with draw distance to maintain performance. Where this becomes a real problem is how it impacts enemy density and your ability to properly plan with marking.
3. Speaking of density, this places heavy limitation on how alive the world can be. It's a crime that we didn't get to sneak around active battlefields like we did in MGS 4 - or vibrant towns, etc.
4. Visually there were a lot of flat textures, low poly shortcuts, etc. It had a great lighting system which hid a lot of flaws.
I guess the point i'm trying to make here is game engines aren't the be all end all of an experience
I mean to be fair here we're talking about a game made on PS3 that's 10 years old Gorny.

It was a PS4 first title. Releasing it for last gen was hella stupid on their part.

Doesn't really matter though, if it was developed on PS3 as well for release then that significantly limits what the game is capable of doing even on the PS4 version. It wasn't used for much else bar Pro Evolution either.

It introduced mechanics that then appeared in Rebirth and gave a short self contained story-and it was really good!

I don't really care for more midquels - I don't need a whole game on the one day Big Boss beat up Miller or whatever; unless they create an anthology style game with disconnected episodes for these minor events.
MG1/MG2 makes the most sense, so does MGS1. MGS V Redux is tantalizing but I doubt it'll happen. A Revengeance Sequel is probably the most exciting prospect in terms of having faith it’ll be good. Unlike Delta’s team we’ve seen what Platinum Games can do and there’s no reason to think they couldn’t do it again, and it’s good they’re clearly still on good terms with the MGS team even after Kojima’s departure.
I still think a Philanthropy game is the perfect framing narrative for an anthology style MGS game and it’s probably the only interquel time period I’d much care for along with Raiden’s Sunny rescue. I don’t want to see more Big Boss, and I don’t want them to try and cram another Snake chapter into the story when his entire timeline is accounted for in a much tighter way than Big Boss’ ever was. And while it was an idea I liked as a teen I don’t want a Boss fronted game.
This may sound incredibly outlandish but I’d actually have a lot of respect if the new team gave us a new protagonist. Raiden is the first and only time we got a character who was absolutely new as the protagonist. I don’t think it’s something they’d be bold enough to do, but would you guys play an MGS with a new protag?
100% want them to go new protagonist route. Give us a clean slate. Some years after the sagas ending would have to be it? Like, the story and timeline as it is is pretty fleshed out and condensed as I see it, don’t have many holes to fill. I woud want it to be after the ending of the saga, but then again, does that somewhat undermine what all the characters in the OG saga had to go through, just for a new threat to rise again? Don’t know, and then one could of course have some returning characters make a return in some sort of capacity, but would love if they were willing to start on a blank slate. New protagonist, new terrorist/organization want to wreck some havoc or something etc. etc. Just give us something new.
Like I get it, we don’t really NEED a new MGS game, as the SS/BB story is finished. But i WANT something new!

I think the first order of business is getting all of Master Collection 1 working properly - the fan fixes for PC are amazing, but console players are stuck. And even then, there's still some work to be done. These games are classics and need to be preserved for new generations of both hardware and gamers alike. After that, a Volume 2 that at least contains the rest of Kojima's games must be released - especially Guns of the Patriots. It deserves to be set free from its PS3 prison!
After that, I think more Delta style remakes wouldn't be a bad idea. Peace Walker's probably next what with those DLC suits. Then MGS1, but something more faithful than Twin Snakes. Cap it off with Sons of Liberty. No need to fully remake 4 - a resolution / framerate increase with some anti-aliasing and you've got a pretty great looking game still. Phantom Pain should be left alone - 10 years later and it still looks amazing. In some ways perhaps better than Delta! Barring the release of unfinished chapters we were never told about, I see no point in touching it.
The MSX games deserve re-imaginings with new level design and voice acting and scripts that gel better with what came later (Zanzibar Land was the world's sole nuclear state in 1999?! Nope!) However, considering how much work would need to be done, that project would essentially be a new game.
At some point, a Revengeance sequel really needs to happen. Platinum's involvement with Delta gives me hope that we'll see that sooner than later.
Beyond all that? Metal Gear Solid 6. A time jump. A big one. Something decades after MGS4's war economy era. New characters, new means of stealth, but the same heart and soul. No small feat, but I think that's the best option. I would not want a full continuity reboot or a multiverse.

I can't see MGS4 being remade or a need for it. The only issue is it being locked to the PS3 and that will likely be changing when the Master Collection Vol. 2 releases. I replayed it very recently and don't think by any means it is in need of reworking. It's still quite an enjoyable game to play and has some great gameplay options. If we need a remake of that we might as well plan for a remake of MGSV in the next couple of years too. Its plot is very messy to say the least but after all these years I can get over it and I think most people should given it was released nearly 20 years ago now.
