The Tar Pit - Main Chat
#21
I beat the Director's Cut last night and got the achievement for getting 5 stars with every facility. It was a hella fun game, I didn't delve much into it in 2019, mostly just did the main missions but the second time around I experimented a lot more with a lot of the gear and tried to build all the roads and stuff.
I'm keen to start 2 when it comes out soon

I feel like this game is king of the second wind. I’ve spoken to so many people who liked it when they played it initially but didn’t delve too deep or get too far and then on second attempt fell in love with it.

I haven't spoken to many people who played it at all, now that I think about it.

I think for me, when I played it first it wasn't like any other game I was into. It seemed to be more about traversing rough terain than action. And when action did come into it, it heavily encouraged pacifism rather than killing. Which kind of put me off at first because I didn't wanna get used to something new, so I just avoided mule and terrorist camps.
But the second time around I actually found it really fun to storm an enemy base with some new equipment and finding what ways I liked to take enemies on the best. But I'll admit that towards the end I pretty much only relied on the non lethal assault rifle.

I'm still not 100% sure what was going on with the story but I think I wrapped my head around it just enough to not be frustrated by it

Haha, it´s complicated but somehow Kojima makes it all "make sense" in the end.

On the topic of replaying. I´m seeing a lot of people, online friends, giving it another chance after disliking it and eventually loving it. It has a few hickups, even for me still. Like the controls of the trike. It´s horrendous on the roads. But I´ve really loved this game from the beginning. I faced the MULEs quite early on. Snatched their truck to move around before I could build my own, that was great. Now I just love going to camps, smoking or tranquilizing them before entering and then leave with all they have.

I was really into the game when I first played it too. I’d gone on media blackout so my first MULE encounter I was like “wait….theres COMBAT in this game?!” Which is so mad looking back but I’d seen nothing indicating there would be. But my PS4 kept spitting out discs and it put the brakes on it massively. For some reason it felt far more daunting a game to revisit than others. So eventually I restarted on a PS5 which didn’t have a disc problem and just sailed right on through to the platinum. I think the story actually manages to be the perfect amount of alien and relatable.

That was pretty much the same as me. I used to race through the mule and terrorist camps until I had unlocked the non lethal assault rifle. Second time round I just opted to ram them all down with the truck Grand Theft Stranding style. Those roads needed those ceramics and I was terrible with the Bola.

Oh man, the bola gun was so cool. It took me a while to realise you had to run up to dudes and knock them out after using it on them. I kept getting annoyed that they kept breaking out of it so quickly hahaha

I accidentally hit a MULE with the reverse trike and I had a mini heart attack because blood went all over the screen, but I don't think it kills them.
I didn't wanna kill anyone because I didn't want to have to go out of my way to take them to the incinerator

Yeah I’m avoiding anything and everything. I’ve lost my favourite shitposter until I beat the game!

Whoa did they actually spoil some major stuff from the game? Should I hide their channel on YouTube and mute Kojima on Twitter too?
