Considering we're probably going to be getting a TES:IV Oblivion Remake/Remaster in a week or so, I thought it would be fitting to make a thread for The Elder Scrolls, to discuss hopes, loves, hates and disappointments for the franchise.
Anybody looking forward to stepping back into Cyrodiil? The remaster looks great in regards to graphical fidelity and how crisp and detailed everything is, but from the leaked screenshots, it seems like it's losing a lot of its classic Fantasy inspirations we had to begin with - the high contrast and saturation colour grade seems to be gone, a lot of trees and foliage cleared, but hopefully this is just how it is in the development build.

I'll defo be picking this up, probably play it when I stop my current FF binge.
It's got a confirmed release date of April 21st btw and is available on game pass day 1.

I couldn't really get into Skyrim because it's just such a big game but I have to try Oblivion. I've spent so many years watching clips from it that make me laugh my ass off.

Interesting considering how accessible Skyrim is honestly - and also surprising considering you at least have time to humour FF and KH games, which feel infinitely more massive to me.
I've been meaning to play through all the classic TES games for a while, but I've just not bothered. Too much on my plate I guess at any one time to think I'll just go boot up Arena for a couple of hours, and after BG3, I was happy to take a small break RPGs, but it honestly doesn't take much to convince me to replay Skyrim lmao. Glad Oblivion can finally replace it (at least once or twice when I get that itch in the coming weeks).

FF games aren't anywhere near as big, they're mostly very contained or can at least be played in a linear manner fairly easily, KH games are even more contained given you have actual levels rather than a world map. Bethesda maps are just so big and it's so easy to get lost or distracted doing other stuff or picking up new ones and getting sucked into them. I love doing it but a typical FF/KH game is normally something like 35-45hrs I'd say while I'd say you could easily spend 70-80 on something like Skyrim even if you ignore a lot of sidequests and only do a few through.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who didn't really care for Skyrim. I guess I don't mind it, I just never saw why it was such a smash runaway hit when it felt like a watered down version of Oblivion. I played a lot of TES3 and 4 when I was a kid, and Skyrim was always just like a demo of Elder Scrolls to me.

Massive was maybe the wrong word, they just feel extremely dense? I've played FF7R, XIV and 1 and 2's PSP versions, and barring 1+2, the dialogue felt so weighty and packed, think it def tired me out quite a bit.
But yeah I think its game design since Oblivion is geared almost exclusively to the like, ADHD brains we're all developing in the 21st Century, hoping we get distracted by everything and pick up 10 quests simultaneously and clear dungeons and caves just because they're there. I like it though, looking forward to doing a bone-headed barbarian playthrough on Oblivion Remake personally and leaning into that silly fantasy element.

Can’t wait for the remake, 4 captured that adventure feeling way better than Skyrim. So many memorable moments/questlines. Absolutely starting off the Dark Brotherhood questline ASAP
