Ive only heard bad stuff about Twin Snakes and people making fun of it when they compare it to the original MGS1. I never played it myself though. Is the game really that bad in comparison to MGS1 or is it all about nostalgia? I quickly glanced over some in-game cinematics and they look updated and added some other things into it but I didnt get the "holy shit this is so bad" vibe from it. Maybe I should look into it more to get what people are saying?

Arguably the biggest issue with it is that the MGS2-like controls break a lot of aspects of the game. Take a look at the Ocelot boss fight for example. That and the backflips. Personally? I think recasting Greg Eagles as Grey Fox is the biggest crime.

My only gripe with it was they made Solid Snake look like he was trying to be a ninja. Like with the helicopter cutscene and that backflip too haha. I think some people expected too much of it then out of nowhere Snake is doing stuff he just doesn't do. Other than that I have no gripe with it. It's fun and got me to see Shadow Moses in a different light and more detail.

I see loads of people who really love The Twin Snakes and swear it's superior to PSX's MGS. Of course how good something is is subjective and in the end it's up to all of us to decide how we feel about each entry.
I have never played TTS-I missed it when I was younger and it's been quite expensive ever since. But I'd say the main issue people have with it compared to MGS1 is a lack of restraint. A post Matrix remake which saw Snake doing all sorts of overtly badass and athletic stuff which was never so much as implied in the original-despite some claims that without hardware limitations it would have been like that.
Think of it like the original cuts of the Star Wars trilogy and George Lucas' special editions. He can say it's how he intended it to be the whole time but many people are just never going to like "Jedi Rock"'s gaudiness when they're used to the more grounded and believable "Lapti Nek" from the theatrical release. TTS also trivialised a lot of MGS1's design by adding in MGS2 gameplay without considering how it affects the difficulty or level design. Buuuut on some level that's maybe a bit of a remake problem. I want to play the game and see for myself how I feel about it-especially since I'm a big fan of the GameCube.

Yeah...I'm pretty certain they used the original game's AI with the engine of MGS2. So first person view is pretty game breaking. Snake doing a backflip is so, so stupid. I think it depends on your read on MGS. The original is more gritty; but I think TTS is probably closer to some of the silliness that would happen in MGS3 & 4 (points at Ocelot's finger guns in Act 3, as well as the literal ripping off of Universal Soldier in Act V). Metal Gear has always been silly at points, but I think the original on PS1 is grittier; along with the overall themes of MGS2 overriding some of the more *ahem* lighter aspects of the game. But if you like some of what happened in MGS4, you can enjoy TTS. It certainly loses that 90s edgyness that the original had.
Oh. And Americanising Mei Ling and Naomi still makes me a little sad - I prefer the voice work in the original MGS over TTS.

Oh hey, I played TTS back in the day. I'm at work now, do I'll provide better examples with videos when im home.
Twin Snakes has several issues that make it worse than MGS1 for me. First off, David Hayter managed to get all the original voice cast back, but for some reason they sound kinda bored. Plus a lot of accents have disappeared. Naomi and Mei Ling in particular.
It did improve the backtracking, but I'll go more into that later
