Happy for you @Bread. I've not properly played any RE game besides 5 as a kid on co-op but I bought Code Veronica on Dreamcast due to your vocal adoration

I hope you enjoyed it, Code Veronica is a clunky ass game by today's standards and is really unkind to first time players, but I loved the shit out of that game when Code Veronica X came out on PS2.

It's the RE game that needed a remake the most, I love it and there's great potential but there's doubting that it's got some flaws that need removing and/or altering.

I got i to RE in 2017ish due to a recommendation from WhiteThinDuke. I'd played 0 and the REmake since they'd come in a bundle, but i wasn't sure how to continue since the series had so many games and spinoffs across different consoles. He said go for the new RE7 due to not needing any backstory from the previous games.

For the avoidance of doubt, playing through the series is largely as simple as playing through in number order. Code Veronica is a mainline game that fits between 3 & 4, whilst the two Revelations games are NOT considered mainline but the events are canonical and therefore worth playing. So to summarise, the play order should look like this. Every other Resident Evil game not on this list is a spinoff and can be played however and whenever you like:

- RE0
- RE1
- RE2
- RE3
- Code Veronica
- RE4
- Resident Evil Revelations (not mainline, but story canonical)
- RE5
- Resident Evil Revelations 2 (not mainline, but story canonical)
- RE6
- RE7: Biohazard (soft reboot)
- Village
- Requiem

I know I stated in the Cardboard Vox poll that it should be release order every time, but that did get intimidating when there was two decades worth of stuff and I wasn't sure what was canon, what was a spinoff, etc. Combine that with games coming out on different consoles and I can see why RE might look scary to get into. Especially since RE1 and RE0 have dated gameplay with their fixed camera angles.

7 being a soft reboot (or isolated enough to stand on its own at least) was nice. Then the REmakes started coming out the year after and they were a godsend for not needing older consoles. I was wondering which were canon and which weren't. I recall people talking fondly of Code Veronica. I'm definitely picking this up next year.

I don't know how Capcom is cranking out such consistent bangers year after year. I love the remake industrial complex.

If I had to hazard a guess, we're getting CV ---> 5 Remake ---> new title that's Chris/Wesker centric.

Rumours online suggest that we're going from CV remake > RE0 remake > RE10 > RE1 Remake (again). Currently there are no rumours of RE5 being re-made but if it does happen, I'd expect RE1 Remake (remake) to come first to give younger audiences the full history between Chris and Wesker.

RE10 has no business involving Wesker in any capacity. Let the man rest, he's achieved iconic status and doesn't need flogging like a dead horse.

RE0 remake

Honestly I can't think of a title that both deserves it more and feels like an extremely weird choice. The OG RE5 and 6 are constantly finding new niche popularity so I'd see no reason for those two tbh, so 0 (and 1 2.0) does make sense.
