Mate if I gave you that you'd have thought, "Wow, he's different in person than online, what an inauthentic arsehole." But now you know I'm an absolutely authentic arsehole, which is much better.

Not to mention that you and I share a hatred of Peace Walker that isn't only honest and true, but has only been enhanced by last night.

100%.

Last night watching all those cutscenes from the series on a big screen, the music swelling, being there with you guys I found myself forgiving some of the stuff I disliked from the series and coming away with new appreciation for stuff that I was nonplussed about. It was in some ways a very healing night, especially for MGS4. This didn't happen for me with two games. MGS1 because it's perfect. And Peace Walker. Not only did Peace Walker come out of the evening being the only game having not improved itself in any standing with me, it plumbed new depths I didn't think possible. I didn't think it was possible to be in room full of people who shared the same love and enthusiasm for something and yet still being utterly embarrassed by the thing we were there for. But PW did it spectacularly. It's Hideo's biggest sin Heaven's Divide is wasted on that game.

I had my MGS4 appreciation moment a few months back in my replay of it, glad you feel the same too. The Love Theme is great. There's still a heap of shite in there but it's a better game than I remembered if you ignore the insanity of the cutscene length in general.

Although this one is worth it for the payoff.

Old Snake was one of the tracks that benefited from the live performance the most for me. So good. It's a shame they didn't do Love Theme. There were definitely some glaring omissions, like Encounter and Yell "Dead Cell" (suppose they had to make room for Love Deterrence!).

Donna Burke's performances were really impressive. Quiet's Theme was nice having Stefanie Joosten perform but her rendition of Snake Eater didn't quite hit the way that song should have.

Also am I alone in that as soon as I realised they were doing it in chronological order I had premonitions of a version of the night where the event ended with a full orchestra performing this:

One can dream...

An annoying guy behind felt the need to keep saying quotes out loud at certain points...yeah mate, we've all played the games! This isn't a screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, it's the Royal Albert Hall, baby! We don't need you saying "V Has Come To" (at the WRONG game, no less!).
I'm glad to have attended with some (slightly) less annoying MGS fans! 🫡

Sorry you couldn't make it @Shyne-Bryght, would have been good to meet!

I thought Donna Burke was great too, she actually made me want to watch that MGSV trailer with Sins Of The Father again. It seems like she had a big part to play in the organising of these events? I didn't get a proper look at the merch but if I did I would have noticed the leaflet and booklets and one or two other bits were done by othatsraspberry who does MGS comics, she said last night that Donna Burke was the one that let her do it. Thought Stefanie Joosten did well enough with Snake Eater which I was surprised by but in all honesty I struggled to listen to her singing Quiet's Theme because it felt like she struggled a lot. Did look nervous too though.
