Nintendo Switch 2 Thread
I'm very excited by the new Fire Emblem announcement. Three Houses was a highlight of the Switch for me and I was super into it back when it came out. I never expected a sequel but the world and new mechanics of 3H felt super fresh so it's very welcome.

Metroid Prime 4 is looking great still and I can't wait to get my hands on it-I'm holding out some sort of naïve hope that they're going to reveal a multiplayer element as the Switch 2 doesn't really have any multiplayer shooter and Metroid Prime has done it in the past with MP2's local multiplayer and, more successfully, Metroid Prime Hunter's character based model. With the main villain of Prime 4 originating from Hunters I think it would be great to see and could legitimise the mouse controls in a big way the same way competitive Splatoon did the gyro controls.

Also I want that Virtual Boy. Probably makes me a bit of a schmuck to buy a peripheral to more authentically play emulated games from a failed console but I collected Game Boys in school and I always wanted the original Virtual Boy for sheer novelty.

Anyone watched anything about Kirby Air Riders? Sakurai did 2 long ass directs that were nearly 2 hours altogether talking about the game. It looks like a lot of fun and has his usual polish.

There's a beta test over the weekend. Any Switch 2 owners maybe wanna air ride together? 👉👈

I’m actually oddly intrigued by it. No Nintendo Switch 2, though.

Not sure you'll be able to play then.

Turned my Switch 2 on for the first time in weeks a few days ago, and just like when I first got it, I'm actually enjoying gaming again. I think it's as simple as it not having Achievements/Trophies. I play it just for the sake of playing it, instead of having this arbritary target in mind. And I'm having so much fun playing Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, Witcher 3, and Megaman X that I feel like a kid again.

Yeah it's quite freeing sometimes even though caring about trophies is a prison of our own making. The trade-off of being able to play wherever is far more important than trophies for me and has factored into choosing Switch over PlayStation for a fair amount of multi-platform games.

Cheers! How's Air Riders, btw?

The Switch was actually the first Nintendo console I ever put serious time into, and I managed to get a Switch 2 on a hefty discount thanks to a mate who works at PC World, and I love the fucking thing. Recently finished Witcher 3 main story on it. Mind-boggling to me, playing that on a handheld. Considering getting Cyberpunk 2077 for it, a game that I know I'll love, and I have on PS5, but have never managed to get that far into.

It's a little weird to get used to but I think it's fun! You can only play the City Trial mode online which isn't just normal racing, you sort of all drive around this open environment collecting power ups that'll help you in a final showdown that can be a battle, a race, or a survival session etc etc. The normal races are offline only but the game has a lot to it and a lot of polish!

I've wanted to play Cyberpunk for ages too, Switch is probably a great console for it if its a good port.

Just played some more of Air Riders aware that Air Ride is only offline for the test drive so I just dove into City Tour without any holdups and actually really enjoyed it. When you get enough power ups you can become absolutely ridiculous, and with all the different Machines having different pros and cons or playstyles there's a lot of strategy to which ones you decide to hop on when they're available. If you've got a bunch of power ups that make you glide farther for instance you may keep an eye out for a machine that's better in the air to lean into that playstyle and bank on a final showdown option that benefits from gliding. I don't fully get how the final showdown works...it seems everyone can choose one of four and then they compete in that one? So if you win your mini-event I'm not sure whether the game cares about your rankings against the people who chose the other three-instead the match just sort of ends? Not really sure. Maybe it's best that it doesn't care about how you did against people who obviously amassed totally different stats to you, not impressive if a cheetah outruns a falcon with both on foot.

I just played a match where I got sooo many power ups that during the final showdown I didn't even need to drift or boost, I just steamed ahead and nobody could touch me even if I drove on the dirtroad. This was the result of a particularly good session of driving around collecting power ups and doing mini-events during the preparation time.
