Nintendo Switch 2 Thread

Well I pre-ordered since I wasn't sure if it'd be hard to find or not but it's from a place I can cancel with easily if I don't want it. €510 with digital Mario Kart is rough, but a new MK with 24 player option is going to be very hard to resist.

I kind of want it in the sense that it's a new, shiny toy and I'm basically a magpie, but ultimately, I'm not sure how much I'd actually play of it if I had it. I would assume that 3rd party games are still going to run fairly poorly compared to how they'll run on other platforms, and the first party games are doing nothing for me.

Give me the next 3D Mario game and proper Gen 10 Pokemon and they might be able to twist my arm.

Sadly MK World is enough of a pull for me, but I wish there was more I'm not going to lie.

Lots of potential though.

I don’t think the Switch 2 direct was as good as the original Switch’s reveal but I also think the bleed over from Switch 1 to Switch 2 is a part of that. Unlike the Wii U to Switch they wouldn’t want to hold back games for the Switch 2 necessarily since it’s backwards compatibility so this feels a lot more like Sony or Xbox consoles where there’s a period of cross-gen releases.

That being said Mario Kart World was more surprising than I expected. I said since MK8 came out that the next entry had to do something really different and it looks like it has. Very exciting.

Donkey Kong looks great, exclusive FromSoft is a crazy thing to happen, the GameCube Online having Soul Calibur II and Wind Waker at launch is great and some of the games they showed are coming are super exciting, Drag x Drive looks neat but I do think compared to ARMS it’s not as cool of a “look at our new control scheme” game.

The welcome island being paid is hilarious, as if? The Switch Edition games being paid I’m not against in concept but when the upgrades seem to be quite small it just teeters into “won’t be buying that” territory. I suppose it’s good for those who haven’t picked them up (I’ll obviously use it for Prime 4) and maybe the price will be really cheap for the upgrade, who knows. It’s weird to see this when they’ve also introduced some very pro-consumer features with the game sharing and the new download play where only one person needs the game to all play together.

Super disappointed by the lack of UI change. I was hoping for a bit of personality to be injected into this one. Hopefully themes are back to make up for it.

Also barely to do with Switch 2 but the direct confirmed that HOLLOW KNIGHT SILKSONG is out this year after radio silence from that game for years. I’ve been waiting since 2018 so I’d absolutely love to have that be an early game for me to play on the Switch 2.

Think the upgrades are €10/£10/$10 or at least I thought I read that, but ones like the Zelda ones are free if you're subbed to the NSO + expansion plan. That being said it looks like the Switch 2 versions are going for €80 here, makes no sense when I just bought BOTW used for €37, I can play it on my Switch if I want AND I'm not even sure if that physical Switch 2 version is even the full cartridge or just this new game card thing where it's basically a "voucher download in a box" in cartridge form but you also still need the cartridge to play it? Some weird practices going on there that I don't like and won't be taking part in.

lol what is that a thing? I thought something was happening for Bravely Default but I heard that was Squeenix’s doing rather than Nintendo

I'm not entirely sure how it works but I think this is a Nintendo choice, although perhaps it's for third party games only. Regardless it sounds ridiculous but then again I almost never buy digital media so anything like this would to me.

Anywhere left to nab the preorder bundle with MK in the UK? I was um'ing and arr'ing and now that it has gone, I feel like I want it.

Also agree Donkey Kong looks awesome. And feel like Breath of the Wild will also debut with a minor new feature on the Switch 3/4/5 as well. And I'll probably buy/play it every time too.

Confirmation now that the physical versions of upgraded Switch games for the Switch 2 just have the Switch cartridge with an upgrade download code in the box. Even more glad now that I just bought the Switch version of BOTW again used. Nonsensical they're charging €80 for this.

Polygon Wrote:Nintendo has made its own Discord-like chat app for the Switch 2, and it's going to charge you for it. Once the free period is over on March 31, 2026, GameChat, and the C button that activates it, will require a Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) membership.
So what happens if you aren't a subscriber and press the C button? Not much, vice president of player and product experience Bill Trinen told Polygon in a recent interview.

I feel like Nintendo are doing their best to put me off buying this. Realistically it won't affect me as I'll have NSO but I really don't like this monetisation of every little thing.
