News: Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 Announced
#1
Announced just now in the State of Play. MGS4 officially off the PS3. Peace Walker also present. Ghost Babel included as "Bonus Content." No sign of anything else as of yet. Screw Portable Ops, I guess! Kojima isn't even here to say no anymore what gives.

"The 2nd of the Collection" seems to imply a third.

I wanted PO and Rising Sad

MGS4 is cool though for all that missed out on it or want to play it now. I'm still tempted to go for that Platinum on PS3.

Honestly it's a bit weird they're not here. They seem to be implying the existence of a Vol. 3 but what'll it have, just Portable Ops and Rising? Surely they can't rerelease MGSV lmao, it's already playable on modern systems (wait I suppose it isn't on Switch...exclusive Samus arm canon for Venom lessgo).

Ghost Babel is also included! Surprised it wasn't with the other 8-bit titles last time, but I'm glad it hasn't been forgotten.

Portable Ops and Rising - tricky. Unsure how the rights to the later work due to Platinum (and perhaps they want to personally oversee the remastering?). And both continue to hold at best, a questionable place in canon.

I suppose Volume 3 could be those two, and various leftovers - MGS Mobile, the ACID games. 5 is already on all modern platforms, right? Unless they were to restore cut content or something, I can't see any argument for a remaster to exist.

Mostly, I'm just happy that Guns of the Patriots is finally being set free from its PS3 prison. Let it thrive at high resolutions and frame rates.

AC!D didn't even occur to me but I suppose really there's no reason they can't be included. I think it'd be great to expose those games to all the MGS fans who never touched them. I actually do think MGSV is likely given it not being on Switch-it'd shift copies on Switch that otherwise wouldn't have bought the collection and will just be a bundle incentive for those on other platforms.

Given Vol.1 not having MGO I suppose MGO2 is out of the question here?

I'd be surprised if MGO ever came back officially at this point. However, I do expect Peace Walker's unique CO-OP stuff to be back, considering that was in Master Collection.

I'm in favor of all the games making it to the Collection at some point - game preservation is important for the future.

Good point on Switch - I don't have any of the modern systems, so I'm very much out of the loop. It'd make sense to get GZ/Phantom Pain on there, then.

I suppose Twin Snakes is still in legal limbo? Then again, if Guns of the Patriots, with its Cell Processor and Blu-Ray Disc dialogue is finally free, maybe something can be worked out for that one as well. It should never be treated as a replacement for the original, but I think it's a companion piece that deserves a chance to be experienced beyond its humble Gamecube roots.

From the official site:

No MGO for MGS4.

CO-OP is back for Peace Walker.

Pre-ordering gives cardboard camo pattern for MGS4 and LOVE BOX uniform for PW - I think both of these are brand new?

Having saved data from Volume 1 on the same account and system also unlocks...

Solid gold camo for MGS4 and a gold shirt outfit for Peace Walker.

The MGS4 Database is included, remade(?) in Unreal Engine.

A French language disclaimer disavows any connection to the real life Doctors Without Borders, implying that the MSF name has not been removed from Peace Walker.

MGS4's file size clocks in at less than 26 GB. Peace Walker is a humble 4.2. Very reasonable compared to the original PS3 ISOs for both HD Collection and MGS4 - MGS4 alone was over 30GB, I think.

Was hoping for PO as well in Vol 2, but let's be honest MGS4 is the prize here. I never was able to play it so count me in. Never really played PW either.

Vol 3 would have to be GZ, Phantom Pain, and...Rising? PO? Acids? We're out of games after that unless MGS6 or they want to add MGSDelta.

And Volume 1 is getting some love, including more resolution options (including clearer text) for MGS1 ....

...
And a 70GB optional DLC for Snake Eater's textures?!

I'm glad that's optional but... what the hell? Why?
