MGF Mini Tournament 1

Welcome one and all to our first MGF Mini Tournament! 

Unlike the full one from earlier, these mini tournaments will be smaller in scope and won't take as long. Indeed, this one only has eight entries compared to the sixty-four from last time! Still the same rules will apply. Each round will be a week long, ending at 11:59 pm on Saturday. I may do a few of these per year and save the larger one for March specifically. I figured it was time for another as we head into these hotter months.

To kick off my first mini-tournament, I figured we'd take a closer look at the winner from the first tournament: Metal Gear Solid. It's what we're named after and barely beat out Resident Evil to take the crown. So, this tournament will be between the various games in the MGS series to determine our winner. Let's address a few questions or concerns you may have:

• Ground Zeroes is included in with MGSV: The Phantom Pain if a $20 demo is your favorite.
  
• MG1 and MG2: Solid Snake do have fans, but I don't think the 2D titles are anyone's favorite over the 8 in here.
  
• Ghost Babel, Snake's Revenge, and the Ac!d series weren't included due to being a bit more obscure and non-canon.
  
• Portable Ops was canon at one point and was more accessible than the ones listed above, so it's on.
  
• Same with MGR.
  
• Yes, I probably could have just taken a note of each member's favorite from their profile, but this is more fun. 
  
• Like last time, I randomized each entry and where they go in the bracket.
  

So without further ado: here's your only bracket! Just need the one this time.

MGF Mini Tournament #1: Favorite MGS Game

Also, since I'm planning on hosting some of these every so often, I'm going to make a topic in Org Chat explaining how future full and mini tournaments will be conducted, along with records of each. Enjoy!

Alrighty, we're done with the first round! Let's go to the sidelines for some commentary:

Game 1: MGS:PW vs MGS3

This was a clean sweep in Snake Eater's favor. Not really surprising as MGS3 is generally considered the fan favorite and PW isn't really liked much around these parts. Honestly, any draw would have been a tough match for PW but the juggernaut of Snake Eater just trampled it 5-0.

Game 2: Portable Ops vs MGR: Revengeance

Despite being random, the two spinoffs go head to head. Well Portable Ops barely got by "nanomachines, son!" 3-2. Maybe it was due to people liking Gene, both the character and member. Maybe people like Big Boss more than Raiden. Maybe people really wanted for PO to get deeper in the tourney than PW for the superior PSP title. Either way, it'll have to contend with its prequel, MGS3 in the next round.

Game 3: MGS2 vs MGSV

A second clean sweep and in MGS2's favor. If you'd told me 20 years ago MGS2 would be winning anything in a Metal Gear tourney, I'd have said you were nuts. We were unable to see its greatness, blinded by our dislike for Raiden. Are those same feelings dooming Venom Snake? Will MGSV become one of the most well liked as well after doing a protagionist switch? 

I doubt it. MGS2 managed to avoid drowning and goes forward.

Game 4: MGS vs MGS4

Well this is our third sweep. The old man of this tourney showing he's not ready to hand over his crown to these whipper snappers yet by taking down a game ten years his junior. Shows there's a real love for the older games in this series. That may come back to haunt it as MGS has to compete with his sequel, MGS2 in the semi-finals. Must be something in the genes....or President Baker's massive forehead.
