If you could only suggest someone play one video game, what would it be?

I find it really interesting that when questions like this come up it seems like people always prioritise single player experiences, or story-focused experiences. I'm guilty of it as well.

But honestly I'd probably sooner recommend a game that you can play with others, as I do find those are some of the purest experiences of gaming. Something like Bomberman or Worms comes to mind as some which is very simple but can be a lot of fun, but if you can only play one I'd probably recommend a fighting game for longevity. I'm tempted to say Smash Bros due to the accessibility and plethora of content (both single player and multiplayer) as well as it functioning as a (Nintendo-centric) history book of video games in general. But on some level it feels a bit odd to choose a game that's so entrenched in all these other games' stories and characters and gameplay, even if Smash is fun without knowing any of them. And Smash has complexity but a lot of it is kind of hidden.

So I think despite my love of Smash Bros I'm actually going to pick Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection. Fuck it.
