The witching season is tapping at our chamber door! This topic may be a little bit late but I'm curious what films or shows you guys have watched this year to get into the spirit? (Or ones that you usually do?)

This year I watched Fright Night (1985)

It had been on my list since playing Death Stranding Director's Cut as it's one of the data chips you can collect (still so random to just have a bit of info about some films as a collectible, but I'm missing them in the sequel rn). A friend messaged me recommending it recently which put it back on my radar and while I'm not at home this month (and so haven't watched many films) I did manage to get back and have a big night in with my girlfriend a few weeks ago where we put it on. It's about a boy who, after a vampire moves in next door to him, enlists a well known vampire hunter...actor. Local TV host Peter Vincent who has never met a real vampire in his life. The special effects are great, the soundtrack is brilliant, and it's so 80s. Incredibly fun watch and an unabashedly horny vampire film in a very sincere way (weirdly aren't that many of those off the top of my head?), look no further than this club scene:

I watched it in a double bill with Weapons (2025) (not putting the poster as I'm sure you've all seen it everywhere) which I really enjoyed but felt less Halloween-y for whatever reason (maybe just due to it being modern? Everyday we stray farther from Halloween's light). I was aware there'd been a lot of hype around this one but knew next to nothing about it which was the perfect way to see it. Never saw the director's previous film but I remember that being a bit divisive. Might check it out at some point.

I usually enjoy watching a slasher film or some franchise trash too around Halloween but it's not the kind of thing I'd really pop on when on my own these days. Films like that are more for group watching and it's a waste watching them alone I feel.

Maybe I'll squeeze one in tomorrow, who knows?

Been really busy with work so I haven't been able to Marathon horror movies this year. But tonight was Halloween in Australia and I saw Scream in 35mm to celebrate the occasion. Seeing it with an audience was a grand old time. I didn't realize how funny a lot of it was. It was far from my favourite horror movie but it's a lot of fun and the perfect movie to watch with a hyper, giggling audience. The print was in kinda bad condition which soured the experience a bit but it was still a Halloween night well spent

I feel like I've watched a tonne of horrors this Halloween season in the build up to Halloween. I did a spooky film marathon with my partner and some friends which consisted of The Fly (my pick, never saw it before), Herbert West: Re-animator (1985), Rec. and The Descent (UK version), all films I really really liked, was pleasantly surprised by Rec. thinking I'd seen it before but realising I'd only seen an American remake, and Herbert West: Reanimator, which was a tonne of fun. The Fly was great too, felt like a real treat finally watching it and subjecting us all to some gross out body horror lmao.

Usually I'd try and catch a screening of The Thing at the cinema, but I've been to the cinema a lot to see other things, kind of slipped my mind!

@BULUPTAX I've never seen Scream in the cinema but I'd love to! Great one for Halloween. I think it's one of the all time greats of slasher films. Wes Craven clearly had those concepts of horror film meta narrative rolling around in his head for a long time as you can see with New Nightmare, (which I think is good!) but after casting off the shackles of franchise legacy and instead focusing purely on those ideas Scream really delivered.

@Jassassino The Fly is so good! I'd actually recommended it to Gabriel about a month ago. Have you seen much Cronenberg? Every film of his I see further cements him in my mind as one of my favourite directors. The Descent is also brill. The bit where she sees the old-time equipment and knows people have been there before is chilling.

I watched Together (2025) yesterday as one last spooky hurrah.

It was quite fun but Dave Franco's acting was really poor. Alison Brie played the character she always plays but it worked well in this story. They're a real-life married couple but I thought their chemistry was non-existent. I hope for their sakes that's just the case for the characters and not them themselves.

I saw this recently as well. I thought them having no chemistry worked since their relationship in the story has hit a wall and they don't have that fiery passion any more.

The director is Aussie and I used to always watch his YouTube videos, he's a really talented VFX artist so I was happy for him when I saw he's directed a feature film
