Fox Hunt thread

Tried getting in a few games yesterday evening, but couldn’t even find a match, on PS5. Sad to see… Can’t see this lasting very long, as if one doesn’t play in peak hours, there is a high chance there isn’t enough players to even play. In peak hours as well I see the same names again and again.

It’s very sad, as the mode itself I find superfun, and I feel like playing it all the time, but Konami funbled the bag hard here. The timing of the launch, the way it launched, the promotions… The mode has potential, but can’t attract players.

Will probably try again late this night if someone is going to jump in. Hope to get a couple of matches in before bed.

If there's a chance to get on I'll give it a go but I'm on the early shift this week so it's unlikely I will. It is a real shame it's in this state, I get them delaying its release until a number of weeks after Delta itself released but I don't think it helped at all, especially given the lack of content (let alone no crossplay).

So the latest update brings the addition of matchmaking with other regions if finding a match takes too long. Will likely help in getting into matches. Still hoping for crossplay!

This is good news! I'm heading back home after working away and may not have much time to play with catching up on a social life and getting my affairs in order and I was kind of worried I may miss the only period of being able to find a match this mode has in its lifetime lmao

Good to hear. They really, really do need to roll out new content for this soon though. I haven’t been on in what is probably now close to 2 weeks and honestly haven't felt like I missed it unfortunately because I feel like I've played each map and mode more than enough times.

They also added fog to the cabin map from MGS3 and changed the spawn points so players aren't spawning right on top of each other which helps. They also made it so headshots do more damage. I'm enjoying it for what it is but I'm hoping they add new content soon and for free because the DLC model didn't work for MGO3 at all, and the name of the game needs to be giving players more meat.

I think the plan is free, right? They said there'd be no microtransactions-does DLC not count as MTX? I suppose there's an argument to be had about that but paid DLC would potentially be a final nail in the coffin for this. It released so barebones.

I still can't believe there has been no new content so far.

I'm not too surprised. Unfortunately, pretty much ever since MGO2, Konami has always slow walked their multiplayer modes. MGO1, PW and MPO were pretty much the only multiplayer modes that ever launched with more than five maps.

Don't get me wrong, I expect it with Konami generally especially having played eFootball since it's release in 2021/2022. But this is a particularly egregious case given this mode's launch was delayed until a while after Delta's release (a delay that was announced very late on), but also because that eventual release had so little to play.

They spoke about not making this an MGO4 because the online gaming landscape has changed and that they wanted to adapt to that. Well that sounds fine on paper and actually very reasonable, but if you're then going to release your online mode 2 months late when the hype has died down apart from diehards, with no crossplay, just two modes and only one team format, no voice chat, no content updates for months, and not even a single in-game event, then any goodwill or understanding that you know how the market has changed and that you're working on that basis is gone. You don't understand it at all and have sent your product out to die.
