Doctor Who
#1
I was somehow convinced I would hate Doctor Who.

I was a teenager when it was brought back, and despite loving Christopher Ecclestone's work (truthfully, at that time I had only seen him playing
Spoiler:
in 28 Days Later, but he was utterly convincing), the show's overt Britishness really put me off whenever I tried to watch it.

Well, I've spent the last few days when I haven't been rushing between appointments watching his first season, and I couldn't have been more wrong. This show is bonkers good, if you can look past the limited budget and hilarious 2000s cheap CGI. Great science fiction! On to David Tennant, I guess!

Any other Doctor Who fans in the MGS fandom here?

Absolutely love Doctor Who. The early run of Nu Who is incredibly strong, Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant's seasons especially. Matt Smith's run is pretty patchy, but Peter Capaldi has a lot of strong episodes after. Unfortunately since then it's mostly bad.

Make sure to check out Torchwood after S2 as well. Season 1 has real teething issues, Season 2 is better but still not perfect...but Season 3, "Children of Earth", is some of the best Nu Who stuff there is and I feel like you'll especially enjoy it.

I am tickled pink by the idea of Matt "Daemon Mountbatten" Smith as Doctor Who, lmao. I can't wait, but I have a lot of Tenth to get through first. I heard John Simm plays someone called The Master, and I kinda have an idea of who The Master is

Spoiler:

Given that I already love him from Human Traffic, I'm pretty sure he'll become a favourite character of mine, haha.

John Simm is so good in it. First thing I saw him in and I was obsessed after his character first showed up.

Love Doctor Who. Capaldi was so nearly peak Who.

Saw they're actually releasing a recut movie version of Satan Pit next month, gutted I'll miss it as I think that would be such a fun cinema trip but it's funny how BBC obviously desperately wanna recoup some lost New-New-Who cash.

Nu Who Season Three is as close to perfect storytelling as you'll see. I stand by this - just peak.

John Simm is a national treasure, and is in Life On Mars which I think has a very strong case to be the greatest British TV show of all time.

Edit on Matt Smith...decent Doctor, the writing was shit. I think I watched until the end of Amy Pond and I had zero interest in continuing beyond. I think I watched a few episodes of Capaldi, I really, really liked him but again the writing wasn't great. There was an episode with dinosaurs which was a huge turn off.
