Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
#31
About 12/13 hours in now, really enjoying it. Taking my time with things but it feels so well designed. Love the decision to have no mini-map, it certainly wouldn't work in every RPG but with the manner of the dungeon designs it is perfect, feels so refreshing to play something where you're screen isn't full of bars and columns all the time. Just realised Jennifer English is going to be at Comic Con NI so looks like I have yet another reason to go now.

I'm hoping she gets a nomination for best performance this year, she's amazing in this as always.

It's also now sold over 2 million copies.

Gotta say, for how heavy the game has been thematically up to this point, Esquie and Monoco have been wonderful additions to the cast. Provide just the correct amount of levity.

Because of his popularity, it looks like they are making an Esquie plushie.

By the way I still can't get my head around the insanity of the popularity of this. I had to go through a huge rigmarole to get a pre-order in for the Lumiere Edition. Including: buying gift cards for Gamestop USA because my card wasn't being accepted and then that wasn't accepted so I had to get it refunded; contacting Sandfall directly (who were lovely) because it was only listed in certain countries to which they said that as they were a new studio they could only partner with retailers in certain regions; buying from a Spanish site in Spanish that I had never heard of; and signing up to a post-forwarding company with an address in Spain that then sends it to Belgium from which they send it to you.

Anyway back to the point, I finally got it yesterday but said I'd look at what it's going for given it was so limited and hard to secure a pre-order and multiple copies have sold for €350-€400 in recent days.

This is currently the #3 best rated game on Backlogged. I think this will have pretty good legs when it comes to sales.

Also, a new patch was released today, they nerfed Maelle's Stendhal ability, I used it to one shot a bunch of the hardest optional end game bosses, it now does 40% less damage now I think. Might still be powerful enough to still cheese them with it tbh.

Seems a very weird move to nerf something in a single player only game, if you want more challenge don’t use it? Also gives people who are dogshit at RPGs but want to experience the story an easy way through.

Anyone finished it? How long of a game is it? I’m hugely tempted to scoop it up now despite the huge amount of other games I’m currently playing
