Lmao so Hexe now has reportedly had around 50 developers reallocated to different teams, the director is changing the way "magic" mechanics will be conveyed in-game to be more science based (not necessarily a bad thing if done well) and a cat companion which was in the works has been scrapped. This is a game which is going to be releasing June next year supposedly.
Good chance of this one being a mess unfortunately.

Not to mention their inability to commit. How can I stay invested in Assassin's Creed when they once announced they had three different games in development that were all different types of AC game-one with the old formula, one with the RPG formula, one that's 'totally new'. Just decide what your series should be! This isn't like Nintendo IPs that get 2D and 3D entries that are distinct, you're just ascribing 3D gameplay elements at random to periods of history. I'm not gonna get excited for a Witch-hunter game when there's no telling what type of AC game it'll wind up.
I'm surprised you feel this way. I actually like this approach. Why not try different things in an IP everyone loves? After all, Assassin's Creed has always been a splintered fanbase. Some people hated the modern day, some loved the intrigue. Some people loved the place and sense of time, others found it a distraction from the real plot.
Some people loved Black Flag and the ship quests, while others longed for a simplified core gameplay experience.
I always want them to be making something great, and from the sounds of things the supposed witch trials game is suppose to be turning out extremely well. They may have never bothered if they were locked down to just one way of doing things, so I'm all for it.
I'll play the BF remake, probably. Not for a while though. In principle I'm against 'remakes' that are too modern, but I also just realised Black Flag came out almost 13 years ago and now I want to kill myself
Because you should be furthering your IP and pushing boundaries instead of trying to tick every box all the time. It's like focus group gone wrong gone sexual, rather than deciding to stick to their guns and do what they, as the artists behind the game, feel is right for the franchise they're trying to grasp on to every type of fan. It creates an awkward venn diagram where I'm hoping for "is a time period I'm interested in" to overlap with "is one of the however many gameplay styles they're currently churning out that I enjoy" I do understand this within the context of doing it in one game. But multiple games of different genre variations I don't think is automatically a bad thing. You said yourself Nintendo do it, so why not Ubi?

Valhalla was great. Odyssey was garbage. Origins was bad. Mirage is pretty good. Ezio trilogy is overrated and Ezio is a schlock protagonist and a relic of early 2000s campy writing. Any takes I’m missing?

Because Nintendo's will tend to be 2D entries and 3D entries in franchises that started out in an era when 2D was the norm and they then changed as the medium did. They keep both going because they are at their very core different experiences of the same franchise. Old AC gameplay isn't different enough from later AC gameplay for them to have a need to coexist, yet alone to warrant a third addition all at once.

Despite it not really being at all for me, and an absolute slog, I do think Origins is up there with SWBF 2015 for one of the most beautiful looking games to come out in the past two console generations, and I've enjoyed the pseudo-intellectual collabs Ubisoft have had since the start of their more 'ancient' games like Origins and Odysey. I went with my brother to this: Assassin's Creed partners with British Library for Alexander the Great Exhibition which wasn't the greatest exhibition ever, but there were a good amount of standout pieces and it was fun to see.
Regarding formula change, I think Ubisoft did have it right to begin with - retaining the action adventure games and then having mobile and PS Vita spin-offs in a 2.5D, Prince of Persia, side scrolling puzzle room style with things like Assassin's Creed Chronicles. It felt like a far more concise franchise when it was handled in that way.
