Lights Zippo
I remember that day. December 2nd...8 PM. I'd entered a contest to see who could go the longest without hearing that song. I worked in hematology on Tuesdays. Not my favorite department but it had the radio in it, and day shift had set it to Christmas music. I knew I wouldn't last 8 hours; George Michael was too popular so I turned the radio down. I couldn't hear much from my work station. Just drum beats and white noise of people talking or singing. Wouldn't be able to make out the song though.
I walked by that radio close enough to hear the music three times. Holly Jolly Christmas and Jingle Bell Rock. No problem. Then thirds came in at 8. I talked them through what I'd done that day and went to help do the maintenance around the lab. Small stuff...but one task involved going to the flammable cabinet to get new stain for blood slides. The radio was on top of it. I wasn't paying attention and then my eardrums asked my brain a question: Do you hear what I hear?
No....it couldn't be. There was only a ~4ft area in the lab where you could even hear the words on the radio. For that song to be playing at that time...I couldn't believe it. I pulled my phone out to confirm it wasn't a cover...only to be met with Google pulling George Michael's face. I'd been Wham-bushed.
