I missed the rest of your post somehow, yeah cinema etiquette is a disaster these days. I pretty much only go to one cinema now, an arthouse one so luckily things are pretty decent there for the most part. The worst is at showings of old movies where people laugh at the most benign or unfunny things but that seems to be a newish thing almost everywhere from what I've read.
I can't remember what it was for but I remember watching something at a different cinema years ago and people were talking at the start, I said to myself "they'll settle down and shut up after a minute or so", but they didn't and I just blurted out loudly "dude, SHUT UP". Like with you I could tell they wanted to turn around but they actually just kept quiet after it but it's ridiculous anyone needs to do that. People look at me like I'm "old man yells at cloud" when I say it but it's a legitimate issue these days with younger moviegoers along with some older ones that just want instant gratification and need relentless quip after quip or action highs or else they can't stay focused on anything like a movie.
