What do you think is the meaning behind Metal Gear Rising: Revengance?
#2
This one is just lazy but I don’t disagree that that is kind of the whole point.

I love MGR so I’m not on the team of believing it belittled the franchise’s themes or whatever but I do find it interesting that Kojima decided to make Metal Gear Solid Rising considering the way he had used Raiden up to that point. I always thought it was incredibly based that after MGS2 when everyone complained about Raiden and wanted to be Snake he gave us an aging and run down Snake and a hyper-cool and badass cyborg Raiden.

“You guys have always wanted to play as Cyborg Ninja right? And now it’s Raiden, who’s been a playable character before! But you guys didn’t like playing as him right so dw about it I guess, he’ll just be an NPC doing way cooler shit than you can.”

I suppose maybe Kojima’s original intention for MGSR was something not quite as badass as MGRR but I suppose we’ll never know. As it stands MGR provides some quite on the nose modern political commentary that is mainly an excuse for epic battles and moments. I thought it was a fun evolution of PMCs if not a little bit dismissive of Snake’s sacrifice. But I suppose it would be silly to think Snake’s sacrifice would end war even if it ended The System.
