Why Peace Walker is Awful
#9
Okay so I started up PW HD just to give myself a fresh look at it. Ground through it, just defeated Chrysalis 1. The story is definitely throwaway, it's just Kojima throwing whatever at the wall and hoping something sticks. It's so incredibly clear how done he is with his own creation, but at the same time it feels like he feels that Big Boss wasn't fleshed out enough. Back in 2011-2013 we had this huge chunk of time between MGS3 and MG1 that was barely touched upon, and I can now appreciate PW's ambition to go beyond being just a portable MGS game, even if it didn't pan out 100%.

Honestly though I cannot stand these boss battles, they're the most throwaway part to me, even more so than Nicaraguan Meryl. I think that's really what soured me on PW originally, because the 1/3rd of the game I really enjoyed was the MSF management and forming squads to send on faraway missions, and grinding out these vehicle battles to equip them is so fuckin tedious. It's the lynchpin to PW for me, it's where the translating Monster Hunter into an MG game falls entirely flat. A T-72 tank is not a fucking dragon, it's not interesting to fight like an MH boss.

But yeah. It's not the worst thing in existence I guess. Transfarring was cool when my PSP-1000 was still working.
