Nah I think it's fine. To sum it up briefly, one of the owners brought up a political discussion in one of the chat threads. That went on for a few more posts and involved a good few of us either contributing or just stating how things were where we are. Then the person that brought up that topic in the first place singled out Dirty Duck and had a go at him saying that it wasn't a political forum and "we don't want to hear that type of shit here" sort of thing. Max (understandably) got pissed off and pointed out the hypocrisy and said he wasn't dealing with it and said he was going and then that person banned him IIRC. Regardless I think tr0nic then called out his bullshit and said Max didn't do anything wrong and said he was leaving, I said much the same and that I was at the very least gonna dissappear for a while, and so did a few others. Think it went dark pretty soon after that when it was basically a whole forum for 2 people at that stage.

But no, as far as I know there's no issue discussing the MGL shutdown. Forgive me if this gets too heavy for Org Chat or if I'm airing dirty ILACKORIGINALITYASANAMERICAN, I'll edit/delete this if need be.

Me, Bread, I think one other person but I can't remember off the top of my head--were discussing the recent US presidential election. Now, Kal and Sad had this unwritten "no politics" rule on MGL, which was very loosely enforced. I had brought up political stuff regularly without issue, so did Aragorn, Nate, whoever. But right after the election, Kal came down hard, immediately. Dunno who exactly said it, either Bread or Nate maybe(?) but someone basically said "Sorry to our American friends for what they're going to have to go through" or something along those lines, and Kal launches into this flowery diatribe about how the outcome of the election is actually a great thing for America, and that "A new dawn was sweeping the Purple Mountains Majesty" or some shit. Dems were giving handouts to "illegals" and Kamala would have started World War III, etc. etc.

And then says at the end that he's "not political" and doesn't follow it and that MGL isn't the place for politics so we should all stop talking about it. Just totally showing his ass.

I tried to play it coy and not outright launch into an argument, but I just briefly voiced my concern that the coming ICE deportations are going to inevitably harm American citizens. Which, hilariously, Sad basically replied to by saying "You own guns. If ICE tries to illegally deport you just fuckin shoot 'em." Bread chimes in with a very innocuous question about the election that I can't remember now. Kal goes critical and deletes all the recent posts pertaining to the election and then gives us all a final warning on political talk.

Dirty Duck sticks up for me and what I was concerned about, and then goes for the throat and tells him it's absolutely rich that they're trying to quash political talk on a forum for an incredibly politically-charged video game series. Then, and I think this is what really set Kal off, says he'd rather be on Reddit than his half-dead forum. Kal and Sad fuckin despise Reddit.

Kal bans the Duck, calls us all too immature to not have a written no politics rule for the forum, and one by one we start dipping out.

For whatever it's worth, I don't have any strong resentment towards either Sad or Kal. They've definitely fallen down some bullshit right wing rabbit hole, but Kal in particular has known how hard to the left I am on things and was nothing but supportive and friendly.

Only thing I resent him for is that he's left me without anyone to yap about Heat (1995) with.

I was completely absent for all of this, but it's so odd hearing Sad and Kal act like that. I always remember them being so laid back and aloof on MGSF and Blaklight. Weird, man. I guess not all of us have changed for the better in the past ten years.

Kestrel Like I said, I don't resent them. We're all scared in our own ways, future of the country is entirely uncertain. Emotions were high. It was just so childish how they handled very minor dissent, and then to ban an MGSF original like that? Showed how much they really care for this community that they claim to cherish. Just makes me sad more than anything, I don't have it in me to hate. Null mentioned that they had started MGL without consulting any of the other oldheads and that it was just an ego project for them, and in the end yeah that's what it looks like.

edit: I was going to mention something along those lines. We live in uncertain times. News articles are getting harder to discern from satire. People have been pushed closer and closer to the edge every year for the past two decades. What we see now is a culmination of a concerted effort to coerce people to act that way, to turn on each other. I don't blame them. I'm just a surprised and a little sad to see people I looked up to turn out that way.
