MG 1 and 2 possible remakes

Do you think these games deserve an individual remake or should they be bundled together. And what of gameplay would work more? The classical one (MGS1 - 4) or the the one we see in Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain?

Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake is an excellent game so I'd love to see a remake of it. I mean in effect MGS1 is a bit of a remake of it given how many similar paths it follows but there's still so many good sections and so much that happens in it that's worth retelling. Metal Gear is pretty rubbish and basically nothing happens in it until the very end, so that being the prologue would fit in almost perfectly.

I think at this stage if we're to see a remake, going all out on a full remake from the ground up makes the most sense. A big undertaking of course but nothing on the scale of FFVII for example, and it'd bring everything full circle regarding where things left off.

Agreed. I'd also love to see how they handle both Big Boss and Venom Snake. They should add a mechanic where Venom constantly sabotages you throughout the game by using his own stealth skills. Something like ruining your equipment, defusing your explosives, blocking out secret paths etc.

I think remaking both as one game works best in terms of tying them together thematically and offering them up as a diptych. I think it also opens the gates for some fun classically MGS mechanical stuff like having bosses you dealt with non-lethally in OH reappear in ZL and having vehicular or enemy unit encounters you maybe didn’t trigger show up down the line instead. Like what MGS3 did with destroying supply houses but on a much larger scale.

As for whether it should play like the classics or MGSV I think it’s a tough choice but based on the story and level design of the originals I’d say give it the classic gameplay style. A big part of MGSV is the mission deployment aspect and the large open zones but I think Solid Snake’s first missions should be more akin to the linear procure on site gameplay of MGS1-4. Maybe a new game+ item you get from Venom can give players the option of enabling some mechanics that make the gameplay feel a bit more like MGSV (a demon’s horn?)

I’d love to see how they reconcile the plot of OH and ZL with the retcons MGSV made. A lot of fan stuff positions Venom as the secret leader of OH the same way Big Boss was in MG but actually appearing as a masked commander rather than not being seen until the reveal. It’s a fun idea and I like some of the depictions I’ve seen.


Showing traces of repurposed Diamond Dogs equipment subtly scattered throughout the base could be nice too. The logistics would obviously be a bit mad but it would be cool if using your MGSV save it would pull from your gear colour choices or custom emblems-not for the whole base but just for a few run down bits. Would help drive home the fact that despite being the enemies they are the same group of soldiers we helped build.

Did Miller ever actually find out that Venom wasn't Big Boss? I don't remember off the top of my head but either way it has such a huge impact on Miller's relationship to Venom. Two individuals abandoned by the man they trusted with their lives. Miller was fooled into putting his faith in someone who was a lie the whole time. Interesting. But I still wonder why did Miller decide to work for the US government after all. Maybe because he learned about Solid Snake's existance and wanted to turn him into someone who could stop the big boss?

I think that has to be it, Ocelot and Miller here say that Big Boss' sons will likely want to "settle the score" with him and that Ocelot and Miller will have important parts to play in that, even if it means one of them eventually killing the other. Miller had the chance to mould and keep an eye on Solid at Foxhound which is pretty much his best chance at getting revenge on Big Boss. 

I never thought about it but someone in the comments of this video says that this suggests that Ocelot may have been the one sent by Liquid to kill Miller those few days before the Shadow Moses incident.
