Certainly brought me back to that summer it came out and Leelee and I saw a trailer for it when seeing something else and decided to see it on release day, not realising it was going to be completely packed given the interest in it with people like Zendaya and Zac Efron starring.
Hugh Jackman wasn’t sure about the soundtrack and nearly didn’t do the film. Michael Gracey kept saying to him “you just have to get into it, get the crowd going!” and Jackman kept saying “like Robbie Williams?” Gracey found out Robbie Williams was nearby at one point and met up with him to play him the songs and recorded him saying they were bangers so that Jackman would do the film (This is also why Better Man exists as Gracey went on to make it).

I liked Jackman in it to be fair, still felt like there was a lot of autotune across the board but he was clearly well capable of doing it without it so it felt like his performance was one of the more legitimate ones in places. After "Rewrite The Stars" I couldn't believe when Leelee (a former High-School Musical lover) turned to me and remarked how stiff Efron's dancing is in it. Didn't really notice it myself until she said it, wonder if he just felt a bit uncomfortable with that sort of a part after trying to break away from HSM for a while, don't know for sure but he probably didn't exactly do many dancing roles after that. Also I agree on the best track.
I don't think it registered with me first time around either but the CGI is so laughably bad in this, felt like I was watching a modern Marvel movie in places.

Currently watching the watching greatest film ever made. I've never seen it before. It wasn't on streaming services so I bought it on ebay. All the way from South Korea...

I saw Rosemary's Baby in 35mm tonight. It was my first time seeing it and it was quite good. Luckily I hadn't had much of the movie at all spoiled for me, even though a lot of those sorts of movies seem to get talked and memed about to death

Just finished episode 3. This is the most insane television ever financed and I have no idea how Fielder got HBO to bankroll this at all, let alone in an age of cuts.
Watched the first 3 eps of S2 last night. Hadn’t watched any of his stuff before really but this show is nuts. Episode 3 especially was hilarious.

I think episode 3 is one of the greatest pieces of television I've ever seen. Season 2 is absolutely phenomenal. I recommend everyone watches it at some point. The finale is also spectacular. He cannot top what he's done.
Season 1 is worth your time as is "Nathan for You."

Just rewatched the 1993 Jean-Claude Van Damme classic, Hard Target
Naturally the mullet of the many Snakes is still my personal favorite mullet, but man does JCVD's mullet in this one come very close. I also just love that in these 90s American action movies, they always make JCVD a Cajun guy. Because apparently a Belgian guy showing up in small town America and immediately running fades on everyone in sight just doesn't make any sense to the simple Yankee mind, there must be some kind of Americanized justification for him having the thickest European accent you have ever heard.

Just finished re-watching Tiger King series again. Can’t even really tell you why I did. Maybe I wanted to feel better about myself

My personal favourite JCVD accent is JCVD playing a Vietnam vet in Universal Soldier. His accent is never referenced aha. This said, if you like JCVD and you're interested in trying something extremely different, check out JCVD. Part's of it are in Flemish, JCVD plays an alternative version of himself. There's a 6 and a half minute monologue to camera in it. Very strange, but a superb film.
And if you're looking for some cult-ish mid 90s action goodness, check out Last Action Hero. I think if it came out today it'd get far more love than it managed in 1994 (1993?).

Fucking love Universal Soldier, picked up the steel case blu ray on sale at Walmart years ago not knowing anything about it besides it having Jean-Claude and Dirty Dolph in it and was not disappointed. Absolute peak early 90s sci-fi, it's like Roland Emmerich made a light gun arcade game into a movie. And yeah they don't do anything to explain the accent lmao.
Don't know how I never ended up watching JCVD, read the synopsis and I'm definitely giving it a watch this week, thanks for the suggestion.
I haven't seen Last Action Hero since I was a kid, I'm giving that a proper watch too. Definitely a victim of its time; by '94 American audiences were burnt out on Arnold in action roles, which is so incredibly ironic given what the film is about. Pretty sure it was Tina Turner's last acting role as well.
