Nintendo Switch 2 Thread
#41
Was chatting to a friend about how it's a shame there's no big single player story experience on the Switch 2 at launch. Obviously I'm super excited for Mario Kart World, but it's not the same as say BOTW for the original Switch. But today I found out that Raidou Remastered is actually launching a couple of weeks earlier than other platforms on Switch 2 so that it can be a launch title. I was planning to buy it for Switch 2 anyway as with big games like that being able to play it on the go makes up for no trophy list and whatnot; it still took me ages to beat Shin Megami Tensei III on the Switch so I can only imagine how much longer it would have taken me to beat it on a PS5.

Where Raidou is a remaster of a PS2 game it's also priced around £40ish which isn't as big of a hit as many of the other Switch 2 games-but it's good of them, I remember spending full cost price on games like 1-2 Switch and Super Bomberman R (which I definitely got my money's worth with as I played that to death around the launch and still play it to this day). I'm in two minds about whether to cancel my Metroid Prime 4 Switch preorder (£39.85-I preordered it when it first went up in like 2018) for a Switch 2 Edition preorder (£66.85). I don't yet know how much the upgrade will be but I guess even if it's £20 (which would be ludicrous) I'm still saving a bit of money by keeping my Switch preorder.

I agree on the lack of a big single-player release but I'm actually good with it. Means I can dedicate more time to MK (which is the only reason I want the system early and is one of few titles I'm fine only having digitally because I'll get endless usage out of it), and it means I can look forward to replaying BOTW even more which I've wanted to do since the end of last year but delayed on because of the rumours of an upgraded NSW2 version.

Yeah to be honest I haven't actually beaten Tears of the Kingdom and I've been waiting to play it on the Switch 2 instead (I played the game a lot but fell off hard at some point, don't quite remember why) so I'll have that to play as well. I would like a couple of fresh multiplayer games besides MK too. A new Bomberman game would be nice with KONAMI shining a spotlight on the series in Delta.

To be honest I didn't like TOTK as much as BOTW. Fantastic abilities and manoeuvrability with them, but it didn't grab me like BOTW did. I found the sky islands fine but not as fun as I hoped and I honestly hated the depths. BOTW had this incredible sense of exploration that I just didn't feel with TOTK and I didn't really like the progression of the plot apart from collecting the tears. I think the simplicity of BOTW by comparison makes it a much more enjoyable experience I think. I've held onto my copy of TOTK until now but I know I don't want to replay it so I'm just selling it given others are actively looking for it now.

I do get it as BOTW was incredibly special and was also very 'pure.' I personally was amazed they managed to give me that 'whoa, you can do that?!' feeling once again with the abilities (I had no idea what any were before playing). And the first time going into the Depths was really eerie and I do think it works great as a sort of badlands of Hyrule that you're always a bit wary of going to. I also appreciated us having dungeons with their own theming this time around-my biggest critique of BOTW was that every dungeon you traverse has that same aesthetic. One thing that really bothered me however was there being no remnants of the Sheikah Shrines, Guardians, Divine Beasts, heck a lot of the iconic stuff from BOTW besides the geography. I fully get wanting to establish your own identity but it IS a sequel at the end of the day. Either way I'm excited to go back to it. It had big shoes to fill and I'm glad it did its own thing, will see if I still feel that way after I get every shrine like I did in BOTW.

On Switch 2 eve...for those who've pre-ordered, what have you got dropping through the doors first few days? I've got Street Fighter VI as I didn't pick it up on PS5, Bravely Default HD (I never played the original!), Mario Kart & Rune Factory. I'm probably going to get the Switch 2 Upgrades for BOTW & ToTK, I still need to finish ToTK!

I’ve got Mario Kart bundled with the console, Raidou Remastered, I’ll download Deltarune, and I’ll be installing the Switch 2 updates for BOTW and TOTK. I do want Street Fighter 6 and the amiibo but I bought it on release on PS5 and despite loving it I’ve played it an abysmally small amount. I play fighting games more with people in person so maybe having it on Switch 2 will make that more likely? \_(:/)_/

I literally only have the MK bundle! Rebought BOTW as I wanted to replay it a while back but delayed due to the rumours of an upgraded/remastered version but I actually sold my TOTK copy yesterday. There are other titles that excite me for sure but nothing made me want this system on release date but Mario Kart. Especially with 24 players now, it's going to be nuts and I can't wait.

Happy Switch 2 day, everyone! I'm not getting one right now, but hopefully some point later in the year. I really want to replay things like Bayonetta 3 and see how that looks and runs now, it was pretty rough on the OG Switch.
