I'm excited but his strike out with Death Stranding bored me to tears so I don't know if Kojima post-MG still got it. I guess if DS2 pans out better than the first one (which isn't a high bar, in fairness) then I might be a bit more optimistic.

I just think military/political commentary are Kojima's strongpoints. DS was a huge departure from both of those so it didn't really hit the mark. If he's making a stealth action game there isn't much else to touch on with subject matter other than a social commentary on politics and war, so I'm tentatively hopeful

It's definitely going to happen at some stage. He's spent so many years befriending Hollywood directors like George Miller, Guillermo del Toro and Nicolas Winding Refn alongside sucking up to so many actors that I can't see it not happening.

Idk man these guys don’t exactly all have an easy time even getting their own films made when they have iconic filmographies behind them. Miller had to fight tooth and claw to get Furiosa made and unfortunately it flopped. Kojima has the makings of the most awkward film director ever. Don’t get me wrong I’d love to see what he comes up with as an original film idea but I don’t think his film friends are that helpful to him when he’d likely end up working with someone like A24 again if it happens.

That's exactly why I think he'll get the chance though. I can see him being looked at by execs as a guy who has movie-like creations already that likes OTT Hollywood action and has a big following, while at the same time someone at lower key studios would think he'd be a slightly risky but worthwhile shot especially given his connections. His clumsy nature is perfect!

As someone that has somewhat grown up in and around show business--Kojima could absolutely get made whatever four hour melodramatic epic he wants to make--In Japan. And it'd probably do decently well and knowing him, garner all over the place reviews. People would love it, people would hate it, give it a few years it'll have a cult following that will make a lot of Kojima newcomers go "WAIT that was the Metal Gear guy??" a la Joji/Filthy Frank.

But he's stubborn as hell and won't settle for anything less than Hollywood clearly, and therein lies his mistake. If he could settle for the Japanese film industry, he would have made it ten years ago. But he wants the red carpet at the Chinese Theater, and it's just not the 1970's anymore. Hollywood won't throw money at anything besides very specific, focus grouped IP's.

He's been trying to woo Hollywood properly since MGSV, and I think Hollywood just flat out doesn't understand what makes something like Metal Gear so beloved by tens of thousands of people. The producers can understand that it's popular and had some kind cultural impact, but they can't actually understand it as a whole. There's some kind of disconnect between knowing Kojima and knowing him as a creative. He has the chops to some degree clearly, but I don't think any Hollywood exec is sitting down to watch "MGS4: Guns of the Patriots FULL GAME MOVIE (4K)" any time soon to actually see what they are.

Can´t wait to learn more about this, but I´m guessing it will be a while. Death Stranding 2 is gonna be huge and a hot topic for a while.
