Project Hail Mary - Null - 20-03-2026

The film is racking up rave reviews and fan reception has been really high. It seems like the sentiment is that people didn’t expect to be as good as it is.

I saw it yesterday and while I enjoyed it, it didn’t blow me away. It was tense, emotional and generally well put together. But weirdly I thought Gosling’s performance was slightly off compared to his usual standard.

I also thought some of the jokes were a bit flat. Like, not to a terrible or cringeworthy degree. But a lot of predictable and “flat” banter IMO.

I reckon I give it about 7.5/10 on first viewing.

What’s everyone else think?

Seeing this film tomorrow and thus didn't even read a peak of what you said @Null. Hyped to see pretty boy Gosling in a space suit tho.

I thought it was great, it flew by for me. Some of the jokes were standard fare but that was expected given it has been marketed as a family film, but there were a lot of moments that made me laugh. I thought it was quite touching too.

Don't diss Gosling in my presence though Henry. (Seriously though I think any sense of him being a bit "off" comes from the fact that most of his scenes are by himself.)

Nah I love Gosling. He’s one of my favs. Maybe you’re right about it being because a lot of the scenes were by himself.

It’s hard to explain what I mean. Somebody else might be able to articulate it better than me. Or maybe not because most people seem to love it.

im gonna watch this because the book club im in read it. i heard a guy say that the humour is "reddit pilled" and i can totally see that being the case. based on the book's writing style

i just saw it, thought it was good. ryan gosling is a weird actor to me but i thought it was fine (??) maybe it's because the first thing i ever saw him in was Drive and it led me to believe he is mute. so everytime i hear him speak it seems unnatural
