PROLOGUE
Pastels Restaurant, Upper East Side, Manhattan, NY
Paul Allen is dead.
Well, I think he is. His fiancé Meredith called me this morning to say he’s gone. He appears to have packed and left for London but she doesn’t think so. The police are involved, though they don’t suspect homicide. Not yet.
We’re in a nouvelle chic French restaurant on upper east side. I don’t work here, I’m the maitre d'hotel at Dorsia in Hell’s Kitchen. The tablecloths are pale pink, curtains silk, menus handwritten. The walls are adorned with delicate arrangements of twigs, moss and hideous bright flowers. It’s a chick’s place. The portions are so small the waiters can’t tell if people have finished or just started.
Anyway, I’m here because I heard some of Paul’s friends would be here tonight. They have no doubt heard the news but don’t seem concerned. Van Patten is asking Bateman if the patterns on his sweater vest should match his tie. Bateman says no, it would look too studied. They all look and behave in a remarkably similar fashion to the point they can’t even tell each other apart. But there are subtle differences. McDermott is the biggest asshole, I can recognise him from his Norwood 3. Van Patten is the yes man, wears horn-rimmed glasses, looks almost amicable. Bryce is the most astute of these dickheads. Patrick… there’s something perturbing about him. There’s a fruity looking guy in a velvet jacket and bow tie called Luis sat at another table with some artist friends of his.
Paul was apparently having dinner with Marcus Halberstram last night, though Halberstram has no recollection of it. A detective has jumped on the case, Donald Kimball, but I’m something of a detective myself and I consider him an equal suspect. I know something’s not right. I’ve arranged for the whole Pierce & Pierce gang, one of their lawyers who was part of that Yale thing, and Detective Kimball to dine tomorrow night.

Rules:
There are 2 mafia and 6 innocents. You don’t know which characters (and which players) are mafia, both have been selected by RNG. The mafia don’t know which characters you are, and to kill you at night they must correctly ID you. They win if the numbers become equal, they lose if they are eliminated.
You vote to LYNCH ARAGORN during the day as normal, you may vote to NO LYNCH. The day doesn’t end until every player has voted, except in specific situations (see below).
The characters have no unique abilities. Every player has access to three regular, once per game actions.
1) Leave the table in the day to go to the cloakroom, check one character’s (not player’s) coat pocket to see their alignment (innocent or mafia).
2) Tail a player at night to identify their character (not alignment).
3) Leave your business card with another player during the day to privately reveal your character (not alignment).
Each is single use and can be used in any order. 1 and 3 can’t be used in the same day phase. Mafia can do these too, and unlike innocents have unlimited uses. If both mafia are alive, a kill attempt counts as one night action, so only one can perform a night action. If only one mafia is alive, he can perform both a night action and a kill attempt.
Special actions:
Additionally, special abilities can be claimed. They are earned by correctly IDing another living player’s character, privately to the GM. You claim them during the day phase and they are awarded before the end of the day. Both innocents and mafia can claim them, mafia of course cannot ID their mafia partner to claim anything. If you ID incorrectly, you’re barred from claiming another ability for the rest of the game. A player may only have one special ability for the game.
If multiple people claim the same ability, you are given priority if you had night visitors, or votes against you when the day ended. Otherwise it’s first come first served. If you’re too late, you may try to claim something else.
SPECIAL ACTIONS
Return some videotapes (ID one living player)
A player can use this to excuse themselves from a day phase and carry out one additional regular action instead. This player will not vote that day. The player who used it is announced.
Take Courtney out (ID one living player)
You may send another player or yourself to spend the night with Luis’ fiancé, Courtney, instead of returning home. Can be used at day or night. They will leave immediately and cannot be visited or killed for that day and night phase.
Antisemitic remark (ID one living player)
This forces the restaurant to close up early, lest they lose favour with their wealthy patrons. The day ends with no lynch. Day actions can still be submitted.
Spiked Chardonnay (ID one living player)
A chardonnay too fine to be turned down can be offered to any player, blocking them from using a special ability for the rest of the day, and the night. The player who used it is not announced.
Harmon Kardon HK-560 (ID one living player)
Buying this expensive stereo system allows one to play any character’s cassette publicly, revealing the character’s (not player’s) alignment. The player who used it is not announced.
The Fisher account (no requirement)
Paul was handling the lucrative Fisher account. Taking this contract gives one access to Paul’s belongings, the player can disguise as him. Any investigation will show that this is Paul Allen, and not reveal alignment.
Sea urchin shell (ID two living players)
The spiny shell from Paul Allen’s sea urchin ceviche. Instantly kill another player during the day. Announced publicly. If claimed, is awarded immediately.
Les Miserables Matinee (ID one living player)
When used, the player will swap identities with the next player to die that night. Going to Les Mis as your new identify cements it with a credible alibi. The dead player appears with the false identity, and alignment.
