What are you watching?

I never disliked her (I used to watch her on Disney Channel so I always had a slight bias for her lmao) but I do think her roles in franchises like MCU Spider-Man and Dune don't give her much wiggle room to really show off what she can do.

Speaking of actors from both films I also thought Hailey Gates was really good as Misha, kinda surprised that she's not really been in loads because she always seems so familiar. (She was good in The Moment as well lmao)

Also I've been listening to this constantly because of The Drama:

It's not on Apple Music so I just bought it for £1.50 off the artist's bandcamp lol

Agree about Hailey Gates and I had that exact same familiar feeling, Alana Haim was great too. Really didn't see her breaking into an acting career that has already taken her into an Oscar BP winning movie as well as an A24 movie with Zendaya and Pattinson lol.

I love Bandcamp. I'm definitely hitting up the soundtrack on the drive home today, it's a lovely feeling when I'm excited to do that after seeing something before work.

I stopped after like two episodes of season 4. It wasn't bad, it just didn't grip me and I don't remember what happened in those episodes. I thought it peaked in Season 1, two was still very, very good. Three was decent but ended with a whimper. I'll catch up at some point. Gen V season 1 felt better than the majority of "The Boys" at one point and I never got round to the second season of that.

I get it. Season 4 definitely became a lot more heavy handed in terms of the satirising of the MAGA cult, and does sort of rely more on shock value than nuanced writing.

Still find myself too invested in overall arching narrative of "Let's kill Homelander" to stop now though.

Been plugging some of the holes in my viewership of Ryan Gosling's filmography so I watched Stay (2005). Interesting movie, a little bit like Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind which I also watched relatively recently in that it has unique cinematography, and there are a lot of visual and editing choices that stand out. A little bit meandering in places but I think as far as psychological thrillers go it was pretty enjoyable. Thought Gosling and Ewan McGregor were both very good. I know Gosling has done a few grumpy/emo/sadboi characters but I do enjoy his more subtle performances as much as I enjoy his more expressive ones.

How did you find the finale? I've seen an unholy amount of bitching about it and season 5 in general.

The bitching is over the top. Season 5 was a slow, meandering season of television where the writers clearly ran out of steam and it felt like they were just spinning the wheels to get to the finale, but I feel like it ultimately stuck the landing.

It was a perfectly fine finale. It certainly isn't a damp squib on the level of a GoT or Stranger Things. It was a tad predictable, but sometimes "predictable" is the right thing to do. I don't think I'd have been particularly thrilled if they'd thrown in any last minute swerves considering what we've been building towards since the 1st season.
