The future of the series

(12-04-2025, 11:21 AM)Dirty Duck Wrote: Time has gone on and they've obviously abandoned the Fox Engine(?) so this idea isn't as cost effective as when I first proposed it after MGSV but I do still think a Philanthropy game set between MGS1 and MGS2 as well as between MGS2 and MGS4 would have worked so well with the framework set up by V. Mission based gameplay involving Snake and Otacon tracking down and destroying Metal Gears all over the world. Doesn't need too intricate of a story, plot already set up and canon, lots of free reign to do what any writer wants to do with it within that smaller scope. Multiple Ground Zero sized areas that feel totally different from one another. Heck if KONAMI wanted a games as service type thing they could even have this work like Hitman and gradually add a new Metal Gear to deal with in a different location every couple of months for years. It's non invasive to the established canon of the saga, while still using a fan favourite character during a period we know happened but haven't seen, and gives lots of opportunity for marketable mech designs and to keep players on it for years without having to reinvent the wheel too much. You could have used so much of what TPP already developed and just expand on that. Anyway enough fanfiction about a fake game!

This sounds cool. Would be some work but could even juxtapose it with Raiden's mission to rescue Sunny and what happened to him when he was caught and however he got away from The Patriots. I was just watching that initial trailer for Metal Gear Solid: Rising again the other day, such a shame it fell through even though Revengeance was great.

They wanted to do OG Rising as a sequel! might actually even be doable with the cut anything gimmick considering there's been two whole generations since, but honestly I like the character action stuff so much not sure if i'd want them to do stealth.

This would be sick. I love Revengeance but the original story idea for Rising was so much more interesting (Jetstream Sam or no!)

I think there was a chance they could have made it work. I'm guessing MGS:Rising fell through because they promised you could "cut anything" and it just wasn't doable. Looked phenomenal but building an entire game with buildings you can destroy and that fall in that manner is impossible.

I'm far from a game developer but I think the concern was hardware rather than design. I imagine it's a design nightmare as well mind you; but the hardware we have now can probably support it.

Design wise I imagine the biggest challenge is power creep and being able to account for a lot of emergent scenarios. It would require a naturally slower paced game imo.

I don't think there's any more stuff left in this franchise to explore. All major characters had their finale in MGS 4 and MGS5 showed us how Big Boss became a villain who used other people as pawns to further his own goals, no different from the US government or Zero.
Revengeance was a great game but it didn't focus on its themes as thoroughly as other games in the series. All the modern political topics like AI, mass misinformation etc. were already covered in MGS2.

If MGSΔ succeeded in sales, One, Two and Four will follow. Something which KONAMI want and it must succeed. I on a personal level developed quite a negative thought/impression towards remakes in general. Something started with RE3 and later on with RE4.

I have quite a decent collection of all MGS games. TWICE actually. I bought both the English and Japanese dub (thanks to anime). This MGSΔ and the likely remakes to come later. It will be a hassle to buy them since I'm kinda a collector when it comes to MGS. If all the series to be remade, KONAMI must put this series at rest and let it go.

Castlevania
Contra
Metal Gear
Silent Hill
Zone of Enders

others like:
- DarkStalkers
- Dino Crisis
- Clock Tower/Haunting Ground
- Megaman
- Rival Schools

The lack of ideas keeps haunting publishers. It's like an inevitable death. This new IP by Capcom, Pragmata (that feels like it copies Death Stranding). I have a bad feeling it won't sell good.

Im yet to play Delta myself, but people seem to be liking it. Despite this I really don’t want to see MGS follow the Resident Evil route and now start working their way through the entire back catalogue. Sure Delta may have modernised a lot of aspects of Snake Eater but the original is available on modern platforms and remains a very playable experience and catering to people who disagree isn’t something the industry should be doing. Also unlike RE which continues to release new entries which are (from what I’ve seen) quite well loved MGS hasn’t received any original games in a decade. Being an RE fan who doesn’t like remakes is absolutely fine but being an MGS fan who doesn’t would mean you get zilch.

Is it crazy to hope that the fact the Metal Gear Acid codes remain in Delta means that that game is getting ported or remastered? Could be a perfect mobile game, Konami!

I feel as though Delta is Konami's way of apologizing for how they've treated the series since TPP. I mean, they put Kojima's name front and center in the opening credits of the remake, something I didn't expect at all. Could they be trying to extend a hand towards KojiPro to get the team back on the franchise? I doubt it, but this is the most hopeful I've been in a long long time.

I know Kojima was a pain in Konami's ass. But he made them a shit ton of money. I don't know what new content for the series they could possibly make other than remakes, but I would LOVE a game where we get to play as The Boss.

Yuji Korekado recently said in an interview that Delta is also a test run to see if younger devs can continue the series. From what was said, it sounds like they do actually want Metal Gear to continue, and David Hayter recently came out in an interview and said that Metal Gear can absolutely continue, telling a new story without Kojima, one that wouldn't ever be the same as what Kojima brought to the table, but still great in its own way. He likened the comparison to Batman movies, saying that Burton's Batman was his definitive Batman experience until Nolan's trilogy came and went.

I'm inclined to agree. I firmly believe that the path forward for Metal Gear is to go all in on the spinoff formula, but without the gameplay gimmicks. Tell self contained stories in the world of Metal Gear, much like James Bond, but with the solid MGS gameplay foundation that Delta's devs have mastered. There's no shortage of one-off stories about colorful terrorists using unique robot death machines for various terrorist plots. The stories can feel more modern with dialogue that isn't as hokey, and have unique settings, enemy types and bosses to confront, and with none of the baggage of a nearly forty year old story's worth of lore.

To me, Metal Gear can flourish without Kojima, and Kojima is flourishing without Metal Gear. The MGS storyline has nowhere left to go besides giving us a proper MG1 and 2 remake to tie both storylines together. Or Raiden's journeys continuing onward. So I say, go the James Bond route, where the past events may or may not have happened, but the specific details of what and when don't matter, so anyone can pick up and play these games.
